Considering the good weather and the slightly weakened state of the Japanese line, the Communist Chinese take the oppening to attack. Any success will put pressure on the Japanese on the choice to rebuild the fleet or the army. In addition, the Japanese will have to take a combiend on the next turn to reestablish the communication lines: their ability to reataliate is limited.

This was well advised!

Even the nationalists take their part, reconquering Nanning.

These small attacks cost dearly to the Japanese!

But what a waste for a 20!

I must note a double mistake!
Initialy, I did set up the British marine in Liverpool : I had forgotten that it could walk through the English channel.

I did somewhat repair the mistake by moving the marine by sea to Dover. An obvious move that I should have countered. But I was so focused on the troubles of the German fleet, there useless subs uselessly waiting in Germany, the certainty that nothing was happening with rain, that I took the naval action with Germany.

Of course, when Britain moved, I realized that the marine was there, just waiting to walk through!

So now it is, sitting in Lille.
It is an ennoying little thing that will once more put some pressure against Germany.

Germany did not allow that entry into her territory.
The marines were promptly dispatched, but at a cost: not only the lost BP are superior to the CW lost BPs, but one oil is lost in the process, not to mention that the turn is lost on these reinforcing units that were supposed to come and help in Brittany.

The Japanese did not like any more the loss of the river. A powerful counterattack recovers the hex at no loss. But the Japanes position is weaker than ever.

Despite the bad weather and lack of air support, the american launch a daring attack on the remains of the Italian troops, trying to make the best of their retreat.

A paradrop comes to the help ; indeed, while the allies have no bomber to speak off, Germany is devoid of any serious fighter cover: counting the fighters on the carriers, the German fighters are outnumbered three to one, and just cannot last as long into the turn.

A German ground support action fails for such reasons.

But Italian troops are more resistant than they look. Paratrooper learn this to their sorrow.

For some obscure reasons (because a turned down sub in the sea area ???) the fleet is unable to return to Rabaul and must instead head to Singapore. Not the best choice for returning to the USA!
If you want to return to base through a sea area containing enemy ships, you can't click on your destination port; instead, you must click on the sea area, resolve any interception attempts, and continue moving. If there is another enemy unit on the route, you must click on its sea area, and so on.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Finally, the Japanese manage to cut the American convoy line that brings the resource back to the USA. Supply is not cut: it can be brought through the South China sea...

Yes, I know that: but the game refused to let me click on the sea area itself... Go figure... Not to mention that the sub could obviously not intercept: it was disorganized.

But this is the least of the Japanese troubles: Nationalist units have begun to infiltrate themselves behind the lines, cutting supplies. A very bad turn of things.

The losses for the turn.

While Germnay and Italy get away with minor losses (damaged naval units don't appear here, and anyway now Germnay hardly cares...), that is not true for Japan which has several units in the repair pool as well as many lost convoys.

The US losses are not as impressive as they appear, obsolete carrier planes being, well, obsolete and anyway later replaced. But there are lost pilots and some ships in the repair pool that don't show here.

The commonwealth suffers few losses.

Also, the turn is bad for the axis, which loses three resources to partisans.

Humpf...

Start of rant

I am tired of playing three or more times the return to base phase because somehow the game decides to send back home hosts of convoys that where set to be used in the previous production planning phase. That's just ludicrous! Ships that are committed to transporting resources should be locked at sea! Or remove the production planning panel! What would its purpose be if not to finaly decide which resource goes where and thus decide on convoy usage ?

End of Rant

In novemeber, the allies hand the first move to the axis.
They want to ensure initiative for the turn where Russia will be able to declare war.
It would be too bad to lose the effect of surprise by a preventive war declaration by Germany!

Germany and Japan choose a combined : for Japan, the time is ripe for the assault on Manila now that the moonsoon is gone. For Germany, what a better time to launch a sub attack than on the first impulse, when defenses are are a bit more slack ?

In cape St Vincent, the Subs meet a Brazilian patrolling air squadron...
