Top Ten Rejected M4 Slogans:

Post by AbsntMndedProf »

10. M4s: Armor isn't everything.

9. M4s: made by 4Fs and driven by 1As.

8. M4s: because live targets are the best targets.

7. M4s: guaranteed to withstand lightning strikes.

6. There's plenty where this one came from!

5. With M4s, Don't put a tiger in your tank!

4. M4s for victory! (Subsequently used by panzer units.)

3. M4s: they're embarassing, but they're ours.

2. M4: the army ant of AFVs.

And the number one rejected M4 slogan:

1. Try the M4 excersize program: drive to battle, then walk back!

#17 Much better than anything we had before (M3's that is)!

#18 Faster than a horse-carriage!

#19 And with the dozer add-on you can even use it for gardening!

#20 Almost floating (for amphibious variants)

#21 Panthers are for wussies! Real men can win even with M4's!

Pity that TV-shop doesn't sell any M4's round here!

I thought the whole deal with being "amphibious" was floating.

But you're right - amphibious M4s did almost float.... :D :D

Actually, I think the meaning of amphibious is originally "something that can move on water and ground" - so no floating capability required.

I guess the M4 amhibious tanks would have made it to the shore in Normandy landings, if they had been waterproof and able to move along the bottom.

.....a really tight "collar" around the turret and a loong snorkel might have done it, eh? :p

Actually, that'd been cool. How surprised wouldn't those Germans been if it was like; no tanks....no tanks......no tanks..... holy...! Tanks everywhere. :D

And what if there is engine malfunction..the crew would go out and push....

Tragic.

The Germans already had such tanks. Take a good look at the data for the Pz-IIIm

Bernie: are you talking about the tank that the Germans were planning for the Operation Sealion (invasion of Britain) in around 1940, that had a real long snorkel?

And I forgot one slogan

#22 Available in more flavours than anything else

I think that the US army has 17 variants in SPWAW, plus then there are the variants for the marines, Brits and Aussies. And a number of other variants not listed (searchlight, bridge-laying, rocket-carrier, recovery vehicles etc.). They were just missing one variant - a one that could stand up to a Panther one-to-one, that is!

But a one funky tank anyway! And pretty good as a tank, by the original meaning of the word (a big thing for holding fluid inside, that is).
