[FIXED] reserve fuel

Post by Yokes »

Do aircraft use reserve fuel? In the attached I have a fighter (Sniper #1) that is about to run out of fuel, but it shows a reserve of over 1000 kg of fuel. As soon as the "standard" fuel gets to zero, the airplane crashes. Is that correct?

Of course, the reason it ran out of gas was because I put tankers up. As soon as the tankers are airborne, every aircraft within 100 nm wants to refuel, regardless (seemingly) of fuel state. The tanker gets sucked dry before the guys that actually NEED the fuel get there. Annoying... [:@]

Okay have added a bug report with the highest possible priority on this one.

The reserve fuel of 1000kg or whatever is part of the overall fuel qty displayed in the fuel pane. This is the amount of fuel the plane should have left when it lands.

Hmmmm okay have been playing around with this one for a bit and it is fair to say it's a tough one. Managing this gets very complex very quickly. The same issue is discussed here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3544833

I'm open for short-term and long-term solutions [8D]

Guess the short term solution would be to set the Side-wise "Use Refuel/UNREP" Doctrine option to No, and only activate the option for the missions where refuelling is intended.

On 'Sniper 1', what happened prior to it running out of fuel? Did it Bingo and then go straight home, or did it first spend all its reserve fuel chasing a tanker and then decided to go home?

The F-14 should have landed with 5% of initial fuel + 20 minute loiter at sea level, so it really (really really) shouldn't have run dry.

I think an option to manually refuel aircraft would be welcome. Maybe add a "Refuel from tanker" button on the list of commands for the units. It would give total control over who and when aircraft receive fuel. I think it would help the refuelee and the refueler.

That is what I'd like to do but the side doctrine doesnt change the individual planes doctrine.

You have to change each individual planes doctrine to NO.

In the attached save Ive set side doctrine refuel to NO (1st thing I do before anything else).

Launched VFA-81 Sunliner, AA-402 individually. its doctrine is YES

Launched Group_4548, its group doctrine is NO, But go to unit view and select each aircraft individually and its doctrine is YES.

Set up a patrol mission, the mission refuel doctrine is NO, but the aircraft that launch to do the mission its doctrine is YES.

Perhaps the refuel doctrine should be default (at beginning of game) NO instead of YES

Ive posted about this problem a few times with no response.

It bingo'ed, chased a tanker for a while, then decided to give up and head to the carrier (which it didn't make).

On the info screen it shows how much fuel is left, and it shows a reserve value. Is the reserve value separate from the total? I was expecting to see the reserve value start to decrease once the total fuel got to zero. Is that not correct?

Okay have added a separate ticket on this. Doubt I'll be able to fix this for 1.03 but will try.

Thanks! [8D]

Thanks for the clarification. As mentioned over I'll look into it.

The reserve fuel is not separate from the total. I was looking at marking the reserve fuel in the fuel bar with another color but had to look into some waypoint issues instead. So...

Thanks Emsoy!

I love the different color idea!

Hm the Different Color thingie requires me to write a whole new control which is not a very effective use of time right now hehe. So updating the fuel text to say 'total'.

Thank you! Can't wait for the next build! Looks like a lot of refueling issues are tackled.

Using build 562 and playing the Shamal scen. This same problem pops up again.(file attached) I've tried other scen.'s and don't see this issue. Could be just an issue with that particular scen.

So I just started it up again and left side refueling to "yes" (since I have ample refueling assets) and starting my tanker orbit, timed certain assets to be on station at the right time for strikers etc. and I have to say it worked flawlessly!! Not one single aircraft was lost to refueling issues.

OTOH there were times when some of the birds would pass my orbit, go some distance and then turn around and go back to refuel, then head back to target (if on mission) or base (if headed home). Dont know if this was due to a lot of traffic (at one time I had over 50 AC's refueling) or not. Not a biggie, I just ordered them to refuel before they pass my orbit. If you want a save for this issue I can post that also.

Excellent work !!!
