Leader (-)

Post by Jorge_Stanbury »

I understand the meaning of having " Leader (-) " as a combat influencer during land battles.

But my question is more about how is this calculated. or in other words, I have seen above average leaders getting this influencer. I am talking on leaders in the "early 60s/ late 50s Land skill).

Is this leader (-) a relative comparison between the 2 leaders?

Yes that is my understanding. A particular leader in one battle may be seen as a negative but this might be switched in another battle if his relative skills are better than his opponent's skills.

Like everything else from Gary, there is a probability of failure ... higher leadership lessens that probability. In a stack, it may refer to one unit or many. You cannot know how many or which ones. If there are both bonuses and negatives, you can't know which is displayed. So, those indicators are just that, indicators. The actual results tell you far more of what the rolls were ....

So, when I see a Leadership(-), like everyone else I check my leaders. If they are all what I want them to be, then ce la vie (or in this case: la guerre [;)]). Sometimes though it helps me find a unit that I overlooked for leader replacement ... ditto for exp and all the rest.

As the guy who coded that... PaxMondo is closer to the mark. Ground combat has two steps. In the first, each device with offensive capability shoots at as many units in the opposing stack as possible. In the second part, the remaining AVs are compared and we determine if the base changes hands.

During the first step, there are, I think, over 100 modifiers. There are a number of random leadership checks. Some improve the attack, others reduce the strength of the attack. For leadership tests, if a majority of those that can reduce effectiveness happen, you get the leaders(-). If the majority of leadership checks that improve combat succeed, you get the leaders(+).

Thanks VERY much for this insight. It will help a lot in future combat interpretations ...
