How can you transfer planes automatically and immediately from Truk to Rabaul but they cant even fly half this far from a carrier. Kates and Vals for example. And the fact that they can be used immediately after this has been done in one quick stroke is a little strange timewise.

Im not sure, since i dont play Japs yet, but what i do know is for extended ranges they had to add external fuel and i dont think they could carry these when taking off a CV, i think that would make them to heavy with there bombs or torpedo allready attached. And since you cant get them to fly in UV without there arms they arent smart enough to leave these and only put extra fuel to do the trip. That is what i think is happening.

Aircraft range is broken up into 3 tiers: Maximum; Extended; and Normal.

Maximum is the furthest Transfer distance between bases.

Sure, you can transfer from Truk to Rabaul, but pilot fatigue is going to be quite high leading to fewer hits and higher losses.

Extended is the furthest Strike distance (reduced payload),

Normal is the furthest Strike distance with standard payload.

i.e. B5N Kates set to Naval Attack carry a torpedo up to within Normal Range (7 Hexes / 210 miles), and bombs for Extended Range (between 8 and 10 Hexes / 211 to 300 miles).

From the Manual:
10.8 Aircraft Range

Each distinct naval and ground aircraft model is rated for its maximum range. This is the number of hexes that the plane may move when transferring between bases. The maximum range is also used to calculate the Transport Radius of the aircraft (1/2 of max range), the Extended Combat Radius of the aircraft (1/3 of max range) and the Normal Combat Radius of the aircraft (1/4 of max range). Range circles show the normal (black circle) and extended ranges (red circle) for the currently active air group.

Just out of curiosity, why do you ask? What are you planning on doing? :)

I rarely use planes after a long distance transfer unless its an emergency. Note the fatigue hit that they take. Usually have to rest them at least a day.
