some questions

Piercing Fortress Europa is a new game from veteran game designer Frank Hunter, which covers the campaigns of the Western Allies from July, 1943 through the end of April, 1945 in Sicily and Italy. Each area has its own map and time scale to best represent the campaigns for Sicily and Italy and the player is offered complete freedom, limited only by a historical order of battle and logistics model, to plan his operations and explore all of the many “what ifs” that the Italian theater has to offer.

some questions

Post by Gribeauval »

1) In the Italy campaign, the victory screen displays "Taranto controlled by Allied (0)", when the allies player occupies Taranto. Why is this zero value displayed ? Taranto is not an objective of the allies according to the manual.

2) In the italy campaign, the unit called "GBR 2nd" has a khaki counter with a dark blue NATO symbol. Should it not be neo-zelander (according to the manual) ?

3) When the player gets a snow weather, only the northern part of the Italy has snow graphics. Do the combat/movement modifiers of the snow apply in the southern area of Italy ?

4) Can you get some free port workers during a campaign ?

5) What are the combat/movement modifiers of the marsh terrain (that is in the north of Italy) ?

6)With the next patch, could you update the manual to reflect the changes (disband order,....) and to add the missing informations (disappearing ZOCs, replacements, marsh ....) ? It is really practical in such a game to have all the infos in the same place.

7)In the combat screen, what are the numbers in parenthesis after the units' names ? I can't find the information.

Thanks for this game.

1. The 0 is displayed in that case because the Allies are awarded victory points for how fast they take those cities. So 0 means its been taken but it was too late for VPs.
2. I'll check that
3. Yes they do
4. There is a random chance every turn or so of a new port worker being added
5. Stack limit of 5, MP cost 3 for inf, 4 for armour. In battle defenders suffer a 20% reduction and attackers suffer a 40% reduction.
6. I'll see what I can do about that.
7. Those are losses taken by those individual units.

I'm surprised no-one has answered these - I don't know most of them, but here's what I can figure out:

ORIGINAL: Gribeauval

1) In the Italy campaign, the victory screen displays "Taranto controlled by Allied (0)", when the allies player occupies Taranto. Why is this zero value displayed ? Taranto is not an objective of the allies according to the manual.

I think it is just a list of cities ports captured, and their current efficiency??
2) In the italy campaign, the unit called "GBR 2nd" has a khaki counter with a dark blue NATO symbol. Should it not be neo-zelander (according to the manual) ?

No - the "GBR 2" unit is a Brigade, and different from the 2nd NZ Division (Hi from Wellington :)) - the NZ Division arrives on T21, the GBR 2 Brigade on T79.

Not sure what unit GBR 2 Brigade actually is - the "real" 2 Brigade did serve in Italy as part of 1 Divisoin, so you'd think it would not be a separate unit.
3) When the player gets a snow weather, only the northern part of the Italy has snow graphics. Do the combat/movement modifiers of the snow apply in the southern area of Italy ?

The weather in the south is "Rain" weather, and its effects are listed in hte manual
4) Can you get some free port workers during a campaign ?

You do get workers each time you capture a port or beach - shifting them around to optimise supply is a major skill!
5) What are the combat/movement modifiers of the marsh terrain (that is in the north of Italy) ?

Dunno - as you say not in manual
6)With the next patch, could you update the manual to reflect the changes (disband order,....) and to add the missing informations (disappearing ZOCs, replacements, marsh ....) ? It is really practical in such a game to have all the infos in the same place.

7)In the combat screen, what are the numbers in parenthesis after the units' names ? I can't find the information.

The numbers in parentheses are the number of hits that unit has taken - if there are multiple units from 1 side in the combat then all the hits are distributed over them, and add up to the total at hte bottom of hte combat screen.

ETA: And Frank posts as I am writing that - snap!! :)

I checked, that "GBR 2" with the blue infantry symbol is actually the British para brigade that replaces 1st Airborne when its withdrawn. That counter needs to be changed.
