Noob Question re: Aircraft

Post by Hammer2 »

Just purchased the game and am really enjoying it. I just built my first level bombers and although I have the option to move, I can't move outside of the airfield the bombers are on. I have plenty of supply and oil. I can also do air recon but can not move. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

In fact you can only move your aircraft to another location with airfield.

What you can do is use the 'recon order' (available when air unit is selected) as you pointed out or use the 'airstrike' or 'bombing' order (available when enemy unit or location is selected).

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,
Vic

Yes move is not normally used by aircraft. The only move they can make is to another airfield city. As Vic said you can chose recon and fly to a spot and conduct a recon or you can click on an enemy stack or unit and pick air attack. With strategic bombers you might want to use the strategic attack.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

I can add to this that there are in fact three locations where you can "park" your plane. The normal airfields (place for 10 planes, a fighter planes counts as 1/2 so 20 fighters can be put on a regular airbase without stacking penalty). Cities, I think it also can hold 10 planes without stacking penalty. (note that damaged cities influence the readiness of based airplanes because the infrastucture is considered damaged, this will autorepair over time). And last Airplane factories, they can only hold 5 planes.
Overstacking leads to a stacking penalty, denoted in the unit counter, something like -12%.
You'll need engineers to build those extra airbases, and those airbases need to be within range of the planes. So sometimes you need a few extra hops to get to your designation.

Thank you for the info. I'm not a hardcore wargamer but love this one. Very dynamic and challenging. Wouldn't have found it if not on Steam. Great game!
