What game is most like AH's Stalingrad?

Post by aaatoysandmore »

Since there are a lot of Barbarossa type games out there now which one comes closest to being like the Avalon Hill Stalingrad game whereby you can setup the units on the front's line any way you want to and don't have to follow a set setup order or path to Moscow, Leningrad or Stalingrad? So, if I want to put all my tank divisions in one army group I can. [:)] I always felt this was the way to take Moscow or Stalingrad to put the bulk of tanks in one army instead of splitting them up. I want to see what would happen if I did this in Army group South, the one that marched on Stalingrad. Of course there would still be infantry support but the main bulk of the army would have been "all" the tanks.

Edit: Don't say WitE cause I want something like Avalon Hill's Stalingrad and it wasn't a monster game like WitE is. [:D]

One of my all-time favorite AH games (back in the day)! Wish I had mine still! Is there anything like TRC now?

L2 made an update, but when I spoke to the designers, they told me that Russia Besieged was better. So I bought that.

This is also amongst my favorite Games: Image[/img]

I have tried everything to get it to work on modern PCs but to no avail. I even got an electronic (yes I still have the boxed copy of it and "Operation Crusader and America Invades D-Day") copy of it via "abandonware site" and still can't get it to work on my gaming PC even with Dosbot. More of a "me" problem than anything else.

And I like you have never found anything real close to it. Please share if you find something worthwhile.

Decisive Battles: Case Blue. It would take some work in the editor to move those tankers, but not as hard as WitE, I think.

Well there's this

Kind of a monster but not overwhelmingly so.

Oh, for the PC.

I'm still waiting for Hunted Cow to release Russian Front. That appears to be a good operational level campaign game for the iPad. It was supposed to be released months ago but probably has some nagging gameplay and AI issues. We'll see.

WITE is just too much. We need a decent PC game of the Russian Campaign at the German corps and Russian army level, monthly turns, and a return to the good old days of wargaming. A computer adaptation of AH's TRC or Russian Front would be great. Still waiting...

Sometimes dosbox saves the day, and sometimes the game should be left in the past. I do kinda miss this the 3 games mentioned by radic though.

Maybe I will sick my boyfriend on them, he hates it when software refuses to bow to his skills :)

Currently AH Russian Front is my choice in board games though. I have always enjoyed the mechanics of the design.

Has anyone else looked at the computer adaption of the Columbia Games block game by the name East Front?

See this thread, post #48, for how I got it to work.
