If he loses too much more industry and especially armaments, it is going to start biting.

overall your strategy of clearing the flanks is really working well, even if Moscow is a case of wading through a deep well structured defense, you'll be doing some damage and setting yourself up well for 1942
RE: T13 - South
yes, but it looks a bit to easy for my taste to be honest, Luga for example, or the river crossing, Novgorod, Pavlovo and now even Sevastopol. Add to this a Volkhov line which has a gap(?!) (this poor guys look for me more like a juicy prey), Rostov, Voroshilovgrad, maybe Voronezh and so on.
Oshawott, you will bring this home, I think, I'm optimistic.
At least there is a very reasonable chance next year...

I decide to lock the remaining industry in Rostov (12 AP) and Voroshilovgrad (3 AP). Griefhead told me on T18 that I had destroyed 40 AP and 70 HI. Nice but it will not make the slightest difference in the long run. The Russians get so much stuff they can easily afford all these losses. I also destroyed aprox. 20 vehicle points and the tank factory in Kharkov which is probably more important.
The min needed is 50 AP to start "hurting", I have never lost a game where I destoried more then 100.
Hurting can mean allot of things, its very easy for SHC to mismanage things and cause huge problems late war handing GHC a draw or win.
Sure SHC can have a huge army, but without AP or trucks its toothless.
Its very easy for SHC to mismanage trucks also and GHC to help capture and destroy more if hes looking to.
If you capture those 16 points, it will have an effect, but a minor one.
You need to top 75 to see a real effect.
The effect will be it will take longer for SHC to make 2.0 army which means GHC holds lines longer and can then slowly withdraw west in dec 43 or Jan 44.
The effect is time and space.

Yes, some of his defending is somewhat creative. But I'm less pessimistic for Griefhead then you are. The Red Army is fully intact and will strike with vengeance during blizzard. Also, I still make funny mistakes. I am just playing T22 and screwed up the Don crossing at Rostov. Thought I needed 9 MP to attack across major river but it's snow so I need 11 MP. Grrrr!
RE: T13 - South
Griefhead is playing well against an outstanding Axis player. I'm reading too many negatives about G'head's play (1700000 cas with a tad bit more than 1 mill captured on turn 13 ???!!!, not bad Rusky play IMO). '42 will be fun to watch. Am I the only one pulling for the dude ??? Oshawott has become the newest posterboy for Axis players. Pictures anyone ???
Movement point calculation screwups when attacking across major rivers in server games are pretty common.

Oshawott is my poster boy playing either side, actually. I just like his style and philosophy.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the positive feedback. I believe this will be a good game. 1.5 million POWs is probably just enough to make it interesting.
That calculation screw-up will definitely cost me Army Group A + B.

Another attack on an urban hex fails. I decide to push further east. I want as much swamp as possible and I would also like to occupy the entire Valdai. If I could cut of the Russian troops in Karelia it would be even better.

Bitter fighting. Some helds due to reserve activation but sometimes reserve activations fail and the troops in the back route.

Tula is out of reach in this game. There are three layers of fortifications around the city and my line is rather thin.

RE: T14 - OOB
Where are all the soviets? 4.6M OOB, but there are no concentrations visible in the pics that would account for that many. Blizzard reserve already? Do you fly enough recon?
I 2nd Hitman's opinion (it will not happen again, promise!) that Griefhead is playing this well so far. He'll probably have 5M by end of mud.

He'll keep the game competitive, but I think he's made a number of mistakes here. He could've done much better up in Leningrad, for starters. His playstyle is far too passive and he's passing up numerous opportunities to counterattack.
OTOH, he mitigated the Leningrad business by rightly containing the Finns.
I just don't think that top Soviet play can focus so exclusively on force preservation as he has.

Agreed. Unfun and more importantly, unnecessary now that the flying fuel cans of death have been neutered.
RE: T14 - OOB
Flaviusx, I think you accurately point out one quality of the best Soviet players ... controlled aggressiveness. G'Head lacks it (presently) in this game. Also looking at German casualties I think he hasn't been aggressive in milking German attrition via his motorized brigades.

Compared with the level of usual gameplay of Oshawott, it is really a monumental error!
Griefhead shouldn't expect such another huge and decisive mistake until turn 50! [;)]
Good luck Griefhead, you will need it, and more...
