The 4 Campaigns

Sequel to its genre-busting predecessor, Battle Academy 2 moves the action east – to the bloodied plains of Mother Russia. When a gritty new look, great new features, and random mission generation meet battle-proven gameplay you can be sure of a strategy classic!

Experience the brutal campaign from both sides as you play across 4 campaigns – as partisan, Tiger, T-34 and dozens of other accurately modeled units. See how the harsh weather of the steppes changed the course of the war.

And after following the fortunes of the two sides you can then experience limitless battles with the brand new random skirmish feature. Customise your mission with the myriad settings before entering a unique and surprising battle every time.

Add in the best-in-class Slitherine PBEM++ multiplayer system, redesigned editor, custom scripting, and Cooperative multiplayer to create a new strategy masterpiece.

The 4 Campaigns

Was this game designed so that you're forced to play it from both sides? If so, I won't be buying it. The old BA series were designed to play as the allies, or the two where you play as just the Germans. I'm just not interested in playing from the German side. So I didn't buy those 2, but all the others. I hate whoever's idea it was to force a player to play both sides, instead of giving the option of choosing a side. I think that's a very poor design choice. I don't think I'm the only one that feels that way.

All campaigns have to be played from 1 side so there are 2 campaigns from the German side and 2 from the Soviet side. This type of game can't have a campaign played from either side as the scenarios are hand crafted and the story doesn't work in reverse - i.e. the story can't progress if either side is able to win, it has to follow the historical path.

Though not a campaign, you have the random map generator and there you choose the side you wish to play. For me it's the best feature of the new BA2.

Yes don't avoid it because some of the campaigns are from the German side, just don't play those if you prefer not to. I tried a random game right after the tutorial and it is a great feature. Plus as mentioned you can always choose the side you want and never have to play the other.
