Netplay

Post by Leaddernoir »

Really keen to purchase WiF and I am aware of the current state of the game. However, Matrix seem to be pretty up front about this and they seem to be moving forward releasing updates and squashing bugs. I just wanted to get a bit of an idea about Netplay in terms of whether it can be fixed or whether there is a possibility that the programmer gets to it and says nope sorry we are going to have to drop this feature? This is not exactly a $30-$50 so I am a bit cautious about purchasing.

Thanks

Netplay will be fixed at some point. But the plan is to fix the remaining bugs in the game first since these would also affect Netplay as well. But no time given on when Netplay will be ready. But no one is planning on Matrix or the developed (Steve) not getting this to work [:)]

If the game bugs are not squashed first then really how useful or fun will Netplay be? First fix the bugs that mess up the game, then fix Netplay. I'm looking forward to Netplay as PBEM just isn't going to cut it playing this monster with so much player interaction and subphases.

Thank you for the responses, I totally agree that it makes sense to fix the bugs first before moving to Netplay (as per Steve's, 'going forward' thread), not knowing much about programming and not owning the game I was just a unsure about the state of netplay and whether it is fixable etc.

Thanks again for the responses [:)]

The problem is that it is coming up on a year since release and they are still working on these bugs.

Yes but they are still being worked on. Compare that to other games that have known bugs and have been abandoned by the devs. So to me this is a positive that bugs are still being fixed [:)]

At a reasonable rate given one programmer. Good news is that Steve's health has stabilized ...

Come back in about three months time, I would suggest. On the other hand: MWIF has got quite a steep learning curve (even if you've played the board game), so you will need time to get used to the interface. You won't be able to say: I've played the boardgame, so that's easy...

"Wait and see.. everything will be good in the end.." that is same old same old.. exactly what I was fed up listening to six month ago. I take it we have not covered much ground since?

Netplay is a fantasy.. how about 1) supply calculation, 2) production planning interface and 3) summary windows? Any change there? Has anyone with half a brain played a game and enjoyed it in MWiF? Can I read something about it anywhere?

1. Almost 100% bug free.
2. Almost 100% bug free. Still a lot of work to get right due to the interface.
3. Summary windows? Don't know what you are talking about...

You can read the AAR's, there are a lot of simple minded souls there enjoying the game. No one there with your intellectual capacity obviously; if they had they would not be playing MWIF, but they're happy in their own little way. Bless.

Let me put it this way. It's what I've stated a couple of times now: if you want netplay, check again in about three months from now.
