Scout area command?

Post by FroBodine »

What does the Scout Area command do, please? I selected it, and it did not do anything except take all my action points. I'm not sure how to use it, and what it does.

Thanks! Excellent game so far!

It allows you to see more/farther. It can find things that you wouldn't see otherwise.

So, how does it work? You just select the command, and instantly see any units farther out? How much farther out?

Does it always take up all the units action points?

I've found it to be not worth the AP's in BA1 anyway.

its so your other units don't get ambushed maybe?

scouts should be the lead units, to scout for enemy units before you more your main ones, or you will lose some or have a few damaged by ambushes and attacks, well thats how it works everywhere else, so can't see it being far wrong here either

Yes, I move with scouts up front, but never saw any enemy revealed when I stood still and used "scout." I doesn't seem to do anything and I'd rather move forward.

It increases the sighting range by 1 which doesn't really help much (from 6-7 I think). However it also increases your sight range in to cover by 1, which is a huge benefit (From 1-2). This means you can see units that cant see you. It effectively turns them in to a temporary scout unit but uses all AP and shots so they cant do this as well as move and fire. You need supporting units to make use of it properly. If used properly it is very powerful.

Thank you for the tip, Iain! This should be explained in the manual, how much extra sight range the Scout command gives.

Yes, I've seen the into-cover benefit, but it never registered with me. Spot them in a building and blast them with arty.

jglazier, if you want to play an MP game, PM me.

Thanks.
