Looks like I'm more behind than I realized here. I'll do some brief reports and try to get caught up.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font]Some I-boats are hanging around the Northern New Hebrides and up to the area around Ndeni. A few attacks and two xAP lost, but after dropping the troops.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]INDIA: [/font]Building fields here as troops get ready for the next push forward. The Allahabad/Benares area will be the main bombing base complex for the next stage. More US bomber groups are still arriving in India, and soon I'll be able to use two different air fleets on separate sides of the sub-continent.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]Pacific: [/font]The bases in the Gilberts continue to solidify. Tabiteuaea now has an airbase and I'll begin building a port. The Ellice Islands have started developing into forward staging areas for supplies and units, and a Marine Defense force is on the way in.

A frogmen of an infantry regiment will land on Ndeni in the hope of taking the base soon.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] Lots of bombing continuing against both troops and fields. Supply is getting scarce.

On the 26th I moved some Lightnings into Chungking and LR CAPed Chikhiang. Managed to shoot down around 20+ Sallys, which was nice, but it didn't really slow the bombing after a one day layoff.

The Japanese attacked south of Chikhiang, but only got a 1:6 result, and lost a good number of squads disabled to almost none for the Chinese. [:)]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font]Another xAK lost near Luganville. I've moved in some Bolos to try to keep the subs down at least.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]INDIA: [/font] On July 30 Nick tests the defenses over Gorakhpur with a few sweeps. The A6M3 come in first and don't do so well. The Martlet and P-40E CAP at 20k gets a 2:1 against them, maybe even more once ops are taken into account. Thinking that this is one of the big expert groups, this is a great result. Maybe he's switched out one pilots? The Tojos come next though and mop up. Only a few lost to ops while the take out 8-10 of the defenders. Oscars came through after and found nothing still up. Nick comments these results worry him, but since they worry me too, it's all about even! [;)]

I'm still a few weeks from serious counters in the air. I've got to get some more bombers up to speed and the groups enlarged on August 1st, of course diluting the pilot pool. I'l knot be able to sweep the big bases, but I can work around the edges a bit hopefully.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]Pacific: [/font] Sent in a bombardment at Tarawa. Nothing major, just wanted to see if it had an effect and what was there. Just a Naval Guard unit present currently.

Namumea was taken by a small Aussie independent company. These little units are really useful for the way I like to play. Experienced, easily transported, easily flown, expendable.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] Netties begin strat bombing in China. Could spell trouble. Fires get started at Chengtu resulting in a few factories lost. Wenchow is also begin hit. The P-38s linger and take out another 7-10 IJAAF 2E bombers on the 1st.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SUBS: [/font]Silversides runs into what looks to be a replenishment TF for the KB near Kusaie Island. Sure enough, an element of the KB is sighted near Kweijalen the next day. It didn't strike, but Cats have been moved to Johnston Island and Midway to check for any raiding going on further toward the West Coast.

A massive convoy looking like it's carrying significant troops is attacking by the Greenling near Tandjoengbalai. I couldn't see the TF during the turn to find out which direction it's going. Is it more troops for India? [:)]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]INDIA: [/font] Nothing happening here now except shifting air units to newly built up forward bases. Allahabad will reach level 8 within the next week or so.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]Pacific: [/font] Ndeni falls to our small force. I'll fly in some engineers once the remnants of the Japanese unit are cleared away. I have some small xAKL that will try to move in with supply now that I can supply a bit of air cover from Vanua Lava.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CHINA: [/font] Near Chikhiang the IJA tries a DA on the 3rd and gets a 1:2. This is significantly better than the 1:6 last time. The air forces are taking a toll on our troops, and in spite of the level 3 forts in x3 terrain, it's a tough hold now. The next DA on the 5th did only get a 1:3, but it's time to replace some of these worn down troops before a total collapse.

I'm moving in another small 180AV Corps that is well rested, and I'll then start switching out the two big depleted Corps for fresh. If I can make this work without losing the hex it could buy another few months here. I need to make every day count until I can reconquer NE India up to Ledo.

Naval Search - I would take some time during an upcoming turn to review your PBY and Catalina placement. Use the "Z" key to show any search arcs so you can find gaps. Its easy to think a single PBY group on a base like Johnson Island is enough when right now having two there would protect your northern flank in the Gilberts. I bet Jocke wished he had been more thoughtful in his PBY placement vs Mr Kane. [;)] To supplement these groups, I train up some of the early war Wirraway groups that stay for the whole war in ASW and then Naval Search to be used around Australia. These upgrade to the LR version Hudsons.

I sometimes just use combat moving for two turns, then reserve for the last and get them out in three days.

One little thing about Reserve Mode. Sometimes, the unit will still be bombed from the air and suffer disruption, even if other units are present in the hex. It seems it just depends on which unit gets targeted by the air targeting routines...

It might be that the unit this has happened to me with was targeted first before I put it into reserve mode. Bombings have kept up without any days of rest, so they just never stopped targeting that LCU? I don't know.

These upgrade to the LR version Hudsons.

I don't use arcs often, as I find search works better set to random.

There isn't much to catch between Pearl and the line islands as most is coming direct from the WC now, so it would be tough to pass through to a further area. I have several more PBY groups in the area though. One on Baker Island, one on Onotoa, and one in the Ellice Islands. Down at Fiji I have the LR Hudsons, some Cats and Hudsons in the New Hebrides, and more Hudons along the Oz coastline. Been training search first for all Aussie bomber units. [:)]

There are a lot of subs transiting the PH Gilbert route too, so those should help to pick something up in the area.

Bombers from Bombay went for Warangal supported by the fighters at Sholapur and other bases. Thunderstorms in the hex severely reduced bombing effectiveness, and there was no CAP. Having one unit moving in reserve mode probably was one of the reasons the Japanese didn't take more destroyed and disabled squads from this unsuccessful SA.

The Lightnings continue to be pesky and rack up kills, knocking down 3 Sonia.

[font="Trebuchet MS"]Here is a plan for the next stage in India. The most risky op yet. I'll try to paradrop three bases and then fill in by flying support to the two with airfields, and railing in to all three. No major units will be used, so if this fails miserably losses will be kept to a minimum. This will happen in conjunction with another op on the other side of India threatening to encircle Hyderabad.

Ranchi (size 3) and Patna (size 4) must be dealt with as part of this op, but I'm still working out the best way to make it happen. Patna has about 180 fighters right now, so no easy task. [/font]

What Tom did whenever I tried to rotate something out was to set every bomber in range to ground attack that hex. Even in x3 terrain I would take 300-800 losses per turn. After doing that for 2-3 days he would launch a deliberate attack before the beaten up LCU got out and the fresh one got in.

Nick is actually doing pretty much the same thing! He hasn't stopped bombing the 78,51 hex for weeks, and when there is an attack or he sees something moving the frequency goes up. I've only been able to slow that with the P-38s showing up occasionally.

Because 3 of the 4 units have level 3 forts the bombings don't seem to hurt much here in terms of disabled squads. It's 5-10 a day, but they seem to recover close to that as well.

He'll break through eventually I'm sure, and he's already making inroads in the mountains, by moving more units down the long road where the armor is entrenched. The longer I can last in the hex's in from of he river in the center, the more difficult it'll be to pull the trigger on a river tossing later, I'm thinking.

I think a lot of players miss that every one of those river valley hexes from Cawnpore to Calcutta is a major road hex. This is a big advantage for the Allies due to strategic road bonus. Another reason I like to see the Japanese player commit to fighting in India.
