T103, June 3rd, 1943.

It's been a while since I posted. Between vacations & travels slowing down our game and mud season keeping a lid on activities, not much has happened.
I spent that time beefing up my army, reaching now over 9M and over 11,000 tanks. I build some additional cavalry corps to help with mobile warfare. I also reorganized the red air force by upgrading all leftover squadrons of obsolete planes to newer models. Finally all of my frontline units are over 90% TOE.

I have:
22 Cavalry Corps, 10 Guards
36 Tank Corps, 14 Guards
145 Rifle Corps, 51 Guards
I have 117 Rifle Divisions left to make ~60 more corps, including about 17-18 which will be Guard Rifle Corps

The down side is that I am way low on trucks and have been at zero armaments for the last 9 months.

T103 south:

With the first all-clear week in a while, I blast a lot of the frontline. I am surprised that many axis stacks which are a mix of Germans and Allies route completely. This allows me to send some Tank units to blast several FZs in the second row of hexes are lightly defended due to no unit retreating to them.

T103 north:

Here also, all units are Corps, so I am have to launch a full scale attack. Being only German units though, they don't route.

I may be overdoing it with the partisans?

T103, over 100,000 Axis casualties!

I was quite surprised about this number. I don't know that I remember ever causing over 100K Axis casualties without pocketing a single unit.
Maybe my well rested units were in full form? :)
Or his units were nicely refilled through the mud months, and there were a lot of targets to shoot at? :)

Armaments and vehicles.

Armaments have flatlined for 9 months.
Vehicles are catching up, but my (need) is 295K!

No, one can never overdo it with the partisans ....

any idea why those Hungarian/Rumanian units simply routed, I've never seen such a complete collapse by them at this stage of the campaign

Some kind of bug I would have to say.

I played allot of games into late 43+ and never have hardly any axis allies route - never seen it in any other AAR.

I would report it and 100k in losses?

.11 is loaded with swapping and ammo bugs German OOB will by design collapse even when fighting becomes light.

I am surprised that many axis stacks which are a mix of Germans and Allies route completely.

In your screenshot I only see routed Romanians, Hungarians and Italians. From my experience this is pretty normal. These are most like very low morale troops probably below 40. Also there TOE is probably quite low. They route with huge losses (3-5k) which could be another reason why the Axis losses for this turn are so high. In the later stages of the war I have also seen Romanians surrender during normal combat.

I can't recall seeing an AAR where someone needed 300k trucks. Then again, I haven't run with 36 tank corps.

Oshawott I think you are right. Most of the routed units are allies and they suffered massive casualties.
On the tank corps I converted all my brigades to corps as soon as it is possible in 1942. That's how I got to 36. They were absolutely instrumental in stopping JC's Pz ball in the south as I was able to make some heavy counter attacks of his Pz spearheads. They are also quite experienced now for the summer 1943 campaign.
Could it be what drives my truck pool requirements? Like how many pool trucks are required to for each Tank corps let's say in clear weather?

About 1500 trucks per tank corps, I believe.

Grand Campaign 1941 - JC vs JP --- GAME OVER

Post by caliJP »

Unfortunately, JC has ran into too many RL commitments and conceded the game.
Disappointed as I was about to start my summer 1943 offensive!
But I understand the time limitations to play this game....
