RE: How to take Greece?
We always played with a house rule that if you attacked peace keepers you would DOW that nation.
If USSR units attack Germans in Finland, its war!

RE: How to take Greece?
This is not completely true. Since Germany is at war with CW then CW can block sea supply provided by Italy even though Italy is at peace with CW.ORIGINAL: Centuur
To get German units in North Africa is quite simple. First, in the surprise impulse, Italy DoW's France and invades with a division from the Western Med. Next impulse a TRS unloads an Italian HQ and a nice Italian unit, while a couple of heavy German INF railmove towards La Spezia, where of course the Italian TRS are rebased at the end of this turn. They are picked up and sailed next turn to join the Italians in Algeria. The Italian HQ provides supply for the German units, which can't be interdicted by the CW, since the CW and Italy are not at war...
RAC: 2.4.2 Tracing supply
SiF option 11: (Limited overseas supply) you can only trace a supply path overseas if each sea area you
trace it through contains a friendly convoy, TRS or AMPH. [Clarification. The convoy, TRS, and AMPH cannot be
from an inactive major power, but they do not necessarily have to be from a country at war with the same countries
with which the units being supplied are at war. However, if there are any enemy blocking units (CV, SCS, or aircraft
with air-to-sea factors) in the sea area which are at war with the units being supplied, then the convoy, TRS, and
AMPH can not be used unless they too are at war with the blocking units - Dec. 23, 2007, Jan. 18, 2008, and June

That's why the Italian HQ needs to be there. So Italian ships give supply to the Italian HQ, which is a supply source for the German units...

RE: How to take Greece?
It is always the original unit drawing supply that is checked for the entire supply chain. So in your example the German units would be out of supply and the Italian HQ is in supply. Note that the Italian HQ is not a supply source for the German units but a secondary supply source and that makes a huge difference.ORIGINAL: Centuur

Another fun thing is that a secondary supply source can in some circumstances itself be out of supply but at the same time be a secondary supply source to another unit.
MWIF is supposed to be programmed in this way and if it does not do it then in that case it is a supply bug.
Anyway. I do not have the energy, at the moment, to argue about this. So either you take my word for it or you do not.

I am sorry that I was so harsh in my previous post. I was tired and stressed but that is, alas, no excuse. Anyway. I am sorry about that. [:(]

I am bad at abbreviations and had no clue of what it meant. So I made a internet search and that gave me Modular Stand Off Weapon what I of course know wasn't right. But it gave me no other result. So I wanted to ask for what it meant in a manner I hoped would be funny. It seems I succeeded with my intentions since now I know what it meant. And hopefully the way I asked made you smile for a second or two. [:)]

Sounds like a nice idea if nobody gets too exploity about it. You can run into some messed up stuff though. I would be tempted to sail a Soviet division into Antwerp, and dare the Germans to attack it and get me into the war while they're still at war with France.

RE: How to take Greece?
WEdge is suggesting that things like that could happen without the Multiple States of War rule, and/or the above mentioned House Rule, which is true. Multiple States of War prevents some gamey things, but creates others, imo.

RE: How to take Greece?
I was responding to dhcul's houserule that attacking a peacekeeper with a major power unit would lead to a war between the two nations. It wouldn't start a war under RAW.

Impossible. Only active majors can align minors that are DoW'd. And since Russia cannot DoW anyone in the second impulse, Russia can't be an active major power.ORIGINAL: Extraneous

I hate abbrviations as a general rule. However I used this because I think it would be obvious in the context.

I have checked the following in the RAW and do not find the restriction you mention:
9. Declaring war
9.1 Neutral major powers
Units controlled by a neutral major power can only enter hexes controlled by that major power, by a minor country aligned with it, or by a minor country it is at war with. They can also go to sea.
9.2 How to declare war
9.7 Controlling new minors
9.8 Aligning minors
9.9 Multiple states of war
Please specify the rule you refer to.
