Sub Transport Quirk

Post by afspret »

I recently sent one of the new S Class subs to Bataan to pick up part of the US EAB unit that was there, and when I clicked on "Load Troops" an odd thing happened. Now the new S Class has a load capacity of 36 (at least it does in my version of Ironman), so it should be showing 36/36 when fully loaded with whatever, but for some reason it was showing 75/36! When I clicked on the unit designation from the ship screen I found it had apparently loaded 1 piece of motorized support device. I had never seen anything like this before and I've been using some of the T & S class boats to pick up fragments of cut-off Brit & Dutch LCUs from Borneo without any problems.

A sub picking up a piece of motor transport is weird. How did they get it in the sub?....GP

It seems subs have only cargo capacity, and they do not load squads. I always evacuate Nauru detachments in my restarts. What gets picked is always a single 18 pounder gun.

For the Allies only SSTs can transport troops.

Guess the engine treats one cargo device as another and thus we have the weird outcome of a motor transport device being loaded into a submarines cargo space.....go figure.

Maybe its a disassembled jeep still packed in cosmoline.

I've had motorized support load onto subs before also. Actually would prefer it didn't, as it won't unload anywhere with a Port 0.

I've never had an issue loading LCUs onto my S & T class boats. I've had them load things like Support, Av Support and, in the case of a RN BF, Vickers AA MG devices. The only rule I've encountered is the LCU has to be in "Move" mode for it to load onto an appropriate sub.

I guess S and T classes are designed specifically to carry squads. Normal subs have some cargo capacity and the capacity accepts guns and vehicles for a ride, but no squads.
