This is likly to be a sporadic AAR, perhaps with some Role Playing on my part as The Imperial Japanese Navy General Staff . It is the highest organ within the Imperial Japanese Navy. A highly professional organazation, ( unlike those yes-men around that Fanatic Isoroku Yamamoto ) we are in charge of planning and operations, it is headed by an Admiral headquartered in Tokyo.

All comments, advice, questions and humor very welcome as I look at setting up.... The First Turn.....

A rare picture of my Planning Staff around me...

The Shogunate Decides.

War has come due to the provocations of the American Imperialists and their lackey British and Dutch puppets.

The Imperial Japanese Navy General Staff has been charged with forming the War Plans.
Are options are:

1: A strike on Pearl Harbor by the massed Kido Butai. Advantages are, if reasonably successful, the American Battle Line and several Fleet Carriers will be out of the War for at least a year, or sunk outright. Disadvantages are the KB will be away from the main theatres of war for weeks and the operation is very high risk.

1a: A PH strike less the Kaga, the slowest of the KB, but with a powerful air group, it would be useful elsewhere.

2. The full KB moves to Malaya to support out operations against Singapore and the DEI by suppressing the British and Dutch airpower. We see many advantages here. No serious LBA and surface force opposition. Close to the main areas of fighting, and able to be supported by our long range Naval Bombers.

2a. As above, again less the Kaga.

3: The KB is split, with Car. Div. 2 & 3 to Malaya ( as above ) and Car. Div. 1 launches a mass port attack on Manila to eliminate the US surface fleet and it`s Submarine Fleet. Later it will support the Amphibious operations of the Army in the PI and China Sea.

Any thoughts on all this ?

Depends on your second tier objectives. If you want to hit India or OZ I'd go with a part of the KB at least in the DEI to get it done faster. If you're content with historical, ht a bunch of PBY and sink a few ships at PH, while maybe another smaller strike hits Manila to get subs and something is still in the DEI to deal with Force Z.

Is there a plan yet for post-SRA moves?

Thanks Obvert.

The debate rages here at INJGS HQ.on post SRA.

The Modest Plans:

1: After clearing Singers, a move into the Indian Ocean by part of KB with a view to occupying Ceylon, and minor operations on the India sub continent coasts. The Army likes this.

1a: As above, but All In in India to knock it out of the War. The Army Hates this...

2: Operation's to isolate Australia from the US. Minor incursions on the Coasts to damage their future mobilization and protect the DEI Oil centers. The Army like this.

2a. As above but All In into Australia....[;)]

3. Then there is always Operation MI, to try and Force a Fleet CV action, and isolate PH.

I always liked this one....[8D]

How would you do 3? Seems this is up to the Alliedplayer without the other numbers involved. So if you're not going all-in OZ or India, how can you be sure the Allies will come out to play?

Hiya Richard III,

Go get 'em tiger! BANZAI!

I'm a long-time advocate of whacking the USN fleet at Manila en route to clearing the DEI and / or supporting SOPAC advances with the KB. Other Japanese players have had very successful PH attacks-nothing wrong with wrecking the fleet there either. I agree with Obvert though-it's nice to have the surety of KB around the DEI if you're planning on an Indian / Ceylon excursion soon.

Richard,

My game versus Quixote opened my eyes... Singapore must fall as quickly as possible. This creates so many chances it makes my head spin... Your initial efforts should be directed into securing it but you do not need all six fleet carriers! Three to four should be sufficient.

Pearl Harbor? Side show....

Midway, along with Palmyra Atoll,Johnston Atoll, maybe some of SOPAC....

Either he fights in `42 or`43 or waits on the Essex`s and Hellcats.

I want the Allied player to start watching the Clock for a change, instead of us. Run him out of time.[8D]

So can you please explain how you get Australian planes (Dark green icon) and British ships (tan icon) at Japanese controlled bases?

Nothing about your screenshots ever makes even a bit of sense.

Yea, the dig was aimed at Cannonfodder. His modified map screenshots always have the colors wrong making it impossible to intuitively recognize what anything is.

Hans, its not that hard, really... Since Japanese bases can't hold Australian aircraft you intuitively know that they must be non-allied aircraft...

Indeed, but I just can't resist the temptation to keep pointing out how silly it looks.

Simply jesting in the spirit of good fun. [:D]

Heck, I know no one here ever takes me seriously anyway.

Someone mentioned once it may have something to do with the screen capture program you use.
