Impulse 7 was just as boring! The Japanese continue to crowd the Communist forces - but cannot launch an attack.

Adolf Hitler likes my new house rule and prepares to send a 4-4 infantry corps to Finland. [:)]

I would have set up the Belgian convoy points in the Belgian Congo -- that way, nothing bad can happen to them, and you will need convoy points down there at some point. I would be tempted to put the Belgian FTR down there, to; that way it doesn't get in the way of the French, if they want to occupy its hex. In any event, you will want to make sure that you evacuate that FTR to Britain (or Switzerland!) before Belgium is conquered, so that you save the pilot.

Lastly, I would have put the CAV in Liege (Liege is going to be overwhelmed, no matter what, so put the worst unit there.) I would not put any unit SE of Brussels; that is just asking for a breakthrough result.

I hope that the German parachute unit is under the German ATR.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Given the range of the CP, yes, it probably would not hurt to put the convoy in Africa for potential future use.

The aircraft I disagree with. If Germany do throw nightmare dice from hell and Belgium is not taken in two impulses, then I would like the extra fighter to support the RAF should the BEF move into Belgium.

As for the ground troops, take your point on Liege, and a unit in the north rather than south of the capital may be smarter - I have given the Germans two hexes to attack, each from two hexes.

Yes Karl Student and the boys are with the ATR.

I had not moved off the DOW: Setup Attacked Minor phase so am taking the opportunity to amend the Belgian set up. The CP is now in Boma. The cavalry corps is now the sacrificial lamb in Liege, while the 2nd Infantry Corps defends north of the capital.

Unless the Germans want to get bold and attack the 2nd from one hex - which they still could, using the assistance of the Para - there will only be one attack this impulse.

Come to think of it, I like that idea.....

The Germans go for one ground strike - against the 2nd Infantry Corps. They use their best Stuka for the purpose and will get two goes at the Belgian...

... the second attack makes its mark, the Belgian unit is disorganised, and von Rundstedt gives the order for an attack with Paratroops.

It's a bit late to suggest changes to the Belgian set up, but that INF corps north of Brussels opens the way for a breakthrough into Antwerp.

In the surprise impulse, it's pretty easy for the Germans to get a good attack, because the river doesn't halve combat factors when the only units being attacked are surprised.

So the Germans can probably get a 4:1-6:1 attack just with land factors plus the PARA, then add ground support to make it a done deal - heck, a single Dorner 17 or Heinkel He-123 boosts the odds by a level in this case by virtue of its doubled ground support factors on surprise.

In fact, I would say Germany could probably hit all three hexes and, courtesy of breakthroughs, occupy Antwerp, getting entirely across the Dyle this impulse.

(1) A blitz stack hits the hex north of Brussels; with ground support it should easily achieve a 5:1 or better attack.
(2) A strong INF stack hits Brussels (*), with help from the PARA and a Stuka (which by itself improves the odds by 2 levels on ground support). That should ensure a strong enough assault to avoid failing.
(3) With only 3 factors, and multiple hexes to attack from, Liege is toast.

(*) I realise that, at this stage, what's in the Aachen hex (covered by the Bf110c) is what you have to attack Brussels with.

I'm at the ground strike phase so yes, a tad late [;)]

Can you explain how I would get three attacks please?

Many thanks as ever.

I am not that fond of this ground strike. I suspect that it could have been better used to make the attack on this hex automatic instead.

I suggest that Germany still makes three attacks in Belgium this impulse in order to use the nice weather. Since I do not know what German units are available I counted a bit low on the land factors available. This way all the Belgium cities will automatically be German controlled at the end of this impulse.

1) A German stack of 17 should easily be found for this attack. Now that the 5 strength Stuka has already been used I plan for a 6 to 1 with +2 instead of automatic. Two armour or mech in the attack gives the second die bonus for the attack. So a 4 strength bomber should make it 6 to one and a automatic blitz result with advancement into Antwerp.

2) Not knowing what units that can reach to Brussels attack but I count on 15 land factors. Make an additional para-drop for 4 additional factors and with the blitz rule the paratrooper add a +1 to the die roll as well. Adding a 4 strength bomber for 8 additional in ground support make it 27:5 +1 or 27:6 +2. Both is enough to capture Brussels. While a loss unit available had been nice I think it should be done anyways.

3) This should easy be a automatic attack. Only two 15 strength stacks needed to do so.

Lastly and most important. Do not forget to use the blitz bonus this round. Both armour and paratroopers can give positive die roll modifiers!

Edit: Do not forget to occupy the Luxemburg hex.

No units can reach Brussels - there were no land units in the forest southeast of Liege.
