Out of curiosity, what was the best attack you could have made (as the French) against the lone PARA in the rainy woods - 3:1 in the rain can't be the best? I would suggest two max French stacks outside Brussels, and then what can you do against the PARA, because occupying those hexes and the forest hex (with the BEF on the flank) hamstrings Germany here quite effectively - you only give Germany two hexsides on each big stack, and the forest hex is well covered. Assuming you can take the forest hex, of course. It also kills the dang Para which is a 'good thing.' I know this is going back a few impulses, but just for your consideration.

Good catch, I did not really detail the attack, only made a quick estimate. I did not consider moving into Belgium with the French because the Germans could get the same attack on the French units in Belgium as they could into France itself and hitting them in Belgium would not give the French a production multiple increase.

I use the 2D10 tables and when I went back and reloaded a saved game to check on the attack in question I found the attack, without entering Belgium and after adding German air support in the rain was +7 + a small fraction. Entering Belgium and adding those units in the attack made it +10 and a fraction which would not have been a bad attack.

I am glad there are players looking at and considering the actions taken in the game.

May/Jun 40 Allies impulse 2 ( impulse 4 ) Fine everywhere

China, France land, rest combined action

CW had to load an Infantry unit in Malta to send to France to replenish the BEF. Italian intercept in W MEd and German in N Sea both failed.

French artillery managed to disrupt 2 German arm units that were in a key position to attack, this made the French to keep Lille garrisoned instead of backing the line up.

In China the communists have backed up some more, the Japanese there are all disorganized and cannot follow this turn.
There are Communist reinforcements coming next turn.

In the south the line looks bad but there is still hope

The Nationalists can probably salvage their situation, especially if they run back to Szechuan to stop the Japanese from coming down from the north.

But the Communists are done like yesterday's dinner if they aren't getting reinforcements next turn.

May/Jun 40 Axis impulse ( 9 impulse 5 ) Fine everywhere

All land action.
Ge Artillery strikes Lille, 1 of 2 disorganized.

Japan attacks Changsha at +12. the city falls.

Germany attacks Lille and West of Metz in France. The Lille attack is risky at only +8.5 It ended up knocking out 1 of the French there but all the Germans were disorganized.
The attack on Lille was due to the two German Armor units disorganized as shown in the units in hex form. Those two hindered the Germans a lot.

At the end of the impulse Germany reorganizes 4 units with their last available HQ and the ATR.

Lille is a fortress with the 2d10 system - continue to make the Germans pay to take it (once Lille goes Paris is next, as it is all armor country beyond Paris). You want the full two corps and a gun/div in there if you can afford it (an engineer is a terror there) - hard to clear with an assault. Consider a BEF counterattack (with shore support if it is there) back along the coast against disrupted units, particularly if there are two corps flipped in that coastal hex (and if you have a BEF gun/div to take a hit). Belgium is a great place for the BEF to fight, particularly with naval and Britain-based air, but not at less than +4. Do not simply fall back and give France to Germany! Avoid having the French extend their own lines for the Germans as their density already sucks, lengthening their line compounds the problem. Solitaire is difficult, of course.

Yes, Lille is hard to take with the 2D10 system. I attacked it this time as the only point I could amass sufficient force, I would have preferred to hit south of Lille but the two disorganized armor units stooped me from having enough power to bear there.

In many games I have seen Lille simply bypassed with their defenders stuck there too weak to attack on their own.

And as you say, solitaire does not lend itself to being surprised by the other players actions.

May/Jun Axis impulse 4 ( impulse 7 ) Fine everywhere

Germany and Japan land, Italy combined.

Italy sends out NAV3's to W Med and both sides find.

Shown is the start air to air fight.

The Italian NAVs are both cleared thru and 1 CW CVP is lost and one aborted. The CW AA fire reduces 4 IT factors, there are none left.
Round 2 no one finds. The CW took a risk in staying but it worked.

German attacks in France

The Metz attack took the city but all the German attackers are disorganized.

The Reims attack killed one of the French and shattered one unit. The attackers are good to continue.

Allies impulse 8 May/Jun 40

The Japanese in the north are almost all disorganized so the situation there is stable for now.
There is only a 12% chance of Partisans.

The turn did not end.

I really hope that the Communists have a unit or two on the production spiral. If they are lucky, they have their CAV division there. They Communists really want to get a unit marching south so it can take a Nationalist city -- Chengtu seems to be the easiest one to get to.
I thought I knew how to play this game....
