Initial Impressions of a newbie

Post by Gizuria »

I used to play the old Harpoon game on my Amiga way, way back and so this looks a little bit familiar. It looks like it has a very steep learning curve but if my first couple of hours of experience are anything to go by, it's going to be a lot of fun learning this game. Fortunately, I'm quite patient with a new game and am willing to read the manual and watch videos to ease me into the game.

Obviously, I started with the Air Tutorial mission and I played it through a couple of times this morning. On both occasions, I managed to get an Average result and earned 600 vps. I managed the CAP part of the mission quite effectively but lost a few aircraft when performing the attacks on the SAM sites and the ground targets. I've got a bit of work to do there before I feel like I've got a handle on the air side of the game.

I even managed to lost one of my Hawkeyes to a SAM because I flew him to the wrong Patrol zone. Ouch!

I haven't even touched the naval side of this game yet. That comes later once I've really got a feel for the air side of things. I've watched a couple of Youtube guides now to show me where I'm going wrong. It looks like I can do a lot better if I manage things manually and set attack courses myself rather than just flying 'down the throat' at my targets at max height.

This looks like it's going to take up a LOT of my time in the near, and not-so- near future. There's so much to learn just in the air game alone. And I've already started developing some ideas for a couple of missions too.

A couple of small Qs. First, the download was surprisingly big. Surprising to me because there are no actual models in the game and these are usually the real hogs. Is the globe itself responsible?

second, I've turned off the music and the game sounds too. I'm actually quite happy with most of the game sounds but the alert gets a bit tiring after a couple of times and so I've turned them off too. Is there any way to isolate that warning sound but keep the rest? I'm guessing not.

Hi,

yes the biggest part of the CMANO installs are the maps, unit databases would be second biggest thing.

You can remove the sound easily, if you get into your CMANO install folder\Sound\Effects and remove "Alert Missile.mp3", it won't play that sound.

Yeah - the music is awful - it stutters, stops, and breaks up...

Also be sure to download sluggy's Sea Hag addon posted above - it makes a world of difference...
