Here's a song that Keane should cover - and if they did, then remove that hideously annoying instrumental bit in the middle. Without that, this would be one of my all time faves. Simply. Beautiful.

Leave Home, Ramones. Over and over and over.
History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

No one could beat the Beach Boys anyway..so would be pointless.

Beach Boys Pet Sounds album is a classic and a must own for anyone who profess to be into music.

What you find hideously annoying I probably hear it as part of the musical journey.

I will say this..you haven't experienced music unless you've heard it on decent LSD. Makes it a whole new ball game, and is why all those bands produced some of the best music ever..and when they stopped produced dire middle of the road rubbish.

Robert Plant for instance more or less apologised for his output during the eighties..he is pretty embarrassed about it.

Well I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that [;)].

I think most covers are pale imitations - indeed more often that not, the cover slaughters the original - Toyah Wilcox and Echo Beach anyone? [8|]. But occasionally a cover takes a classic original and betters it - The Corrs and Dreams is a good example.

Amongst my collection are two singles from the sixties - both of which are excellent songs but suffer from a rather ridiculous instrumental piece that is out of place with the brilliance of the rest of the song; The Beach Boys number I mentioned earlier, and Cilla Black's Anyone who had a heart. I believe that both of these tracks could be made even better by someone taking a hatchet to the instrumental and replacing it with something better (Orchestral would be good).

As for needing to take drugs to appreciate music - well I'm glad it works for you. Music is one of the great loves of my life and I'm certainly glad I do not need any stimulants to make me appreciate it. There is nothing like hearing a tune - and that sound really grabs you, gets into you, makes you feel. What's more, music can be so powerful, the emotion it sparks can be anything, even capable of taking you outside your normal state - ranging from happy (Shiny Happy People) to wrist slitter (Asleep), from dance (Don't stop till you get enough) even though you know you can't [:(]), to solemn (Nimrod), from wanting to invade a foreign country (Wreath of Barbs) to fun (The Lone Ranger), from patriotic (I vow to thee my country) to weird - weird good that is - (Signal to Noise) and from memories of childhood (Two Little Boys) to growing up (most synth stuff from the 80's).

So I'll just continue to take my music au naturel and enjoy the natural high it brings [:)].

I've got some great additions to my music collection from some of the folks here - shunwick, Orm, nate25 to name but three - have introduced me to tracks and artists I simply would never have heard of. Many thanks.

But, I have to say, the one person I am probably most grateful to has to be, of all people, SLAAKMAN!

Without him I would not have been introduced to Blutengel and two superb albums and a couple of other singles of theirs

My favourite track remains the beautiful Silent Death [&o]

You said it well, warspite1. [:)]

This thread has greatly improved and expanded the music I listen to. [&o] And SLAAKMAN is the one who has done most to do so. [:)]

I do hope that SLAAKMAN soon may be able to continue to contribute to my musical education.

And Silent Death is a awesome track. [&o]
