Been waiting for this on Steam since launch

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Been waiting for this on Steam since launch

Post by 05Angels »

Hello all, I have been a lurker on these forums since launch and I have been waiting with crossed fingers for a Steam release. Although I have purchased many Matrix games directly in the past, I find myself now waiting for Steam releases. Is there any chance this will occur? I have two regular gaming partners waiting as well, there are sales to be made. I realize I would probably receive a free Steam key down the line if this were to occur, but is this even a possibility?

Because Matrix has released games on Steam there is a possibility. I'm not sure I'd wait to see if we are one of those they deem worthy of putting on there before I bought this game. This is a game I'd buy even if I wasn't one of the developers.

IMO, it's that good.

You might consider that my opinion is extremely biased though. [:D]

The word on Steam right now is no. It has been a topic of recent discussions between the Development Team and Matrix. As Matrix looks at various releases in the future and assuming it is a good vehicle for sales, we may see the next game in the system go there.

As for sales or specials, stay tuned. Once we get 2.06 done and in Matrix hands, there might just be a bit more then an update announcement. [;)]

Thank you for the quick responses and I appreciate direct answers. Your passion and support for the program are to be commended, as I have watched your level of involvement from the beginning. I guess I will see if a sale is on the horizon to celebrate your next release, please continue the hard work and know it's appreciated.

Just curious, what is the advantage of a Steam version? I use Steam for some games, but if a game is available directly from the retailer, I usually go with the direct buy. I don't like having to either be online through Steam or have to manually make it available offline.

I will provide one response to this, as I refuse to be dragged into the endless "I hate Steam/I love Steam" debates. I prefer Steam for my programs due to convenience. I start Steam; all my games are checked for updates and are automatically patched. If I decide to play a game I haven't loaded in months I don't need to check a website for an update, log in, find a serial number, deal with a slow download speed, or the dreaded "install multiple small patches in a special sequence" nonsense. In addition to patching convenience, when I purchase a new machine, I have one simple stop to re install all my programs. Free time is my most precious asset at this stage of life, Steam allows me to squander less of it.

Makes sense. I'm ambivalent to Steam. I use it for games that I find there, but for Matrix Games I usually buy directly from Matrix. Matrix launchers have an update button which is quite easy to use.

And since I don't purchase new machines very often, batch reinstalls aren't really an issue for me. :)
