Just observing.

Seems the discussion about granularity of the game comes up and I wonder if the fate of one bridge that did existed at one time or another is staying within the general model.

Is it possible to give the Japanese player the option to rebuild a bridge or improve a road?
I don't think so outside going into the editor and making the changed which is beyond the scope of normal game play.

Dan,

Yes, for "normal" gameplay. However, quite a few mods make use of alternate maps throughout the game. The maps are put in play based upon player agreement. For example in my mod, I have come up with a supply "expense" per hex of RR. Once the player "deposits" that amount into the designated hex (generally an island like Ulleungdo for the IJ), then the player can request a specific map to be used where some previously agreed to RR has been completed. That's just me. Quite a few other players do something quite similar. My point is that prolly >20% of the players routinely swap out map/pwhex files during a GC game ... not that uncommon these days.

I recall another thread where I think it was discussed the ability to have a whole series of changes in the pwhex files within the same file - (or was it having a series of pwhex files that would alternately take control/be overwritten)???

Sorry, I don't mean to off-track the discussion. Maybe I need to fire up the editors and see what I can mess up, but I need another safe install to do surgery on. I wouldn't want to mess up my pbem-games.
Thanks for the reply PaxMondo.

There is no such ability in the game. I'm sure that people have discussed it in a 'this would be nice' fashion, so you probably saw that.

As far as additional installs go, just copy the top-level AE folder and then rename the copy. Many of us use multiple installs so that we can keep PBMs separate, run an AI game too, or experiment like you are talking about. Here is an example of mine.
