real life tend to get in the way from time to time, and this week was just that.

Empire builds rail on Mindinau to connect Daevo towards Butuan. He also completes a rail spur to Ichang

Allies continue rail line towards ChihKiang

I just cant believe why but he has withdrawn from southeastern Oz and ceded Sydney which has a 60 repair shipyard. Was captured with paratroopers.

Summary of activities
Diego Garcia - three air attacks with no-so-good results. Still a large supply stockpile. gathering the invasion at cochin
Lord Howe Island (off Oz). several air attacks with 4E air have softened up defenders. Invasion is getting ready to load at Brisbane
Tennant Creek - US army marching on base...eta about 10 days. 4 enemy divisions in area.
Melbourne - para assault today.
Burma - typical air battles and 4 river crossings proceeding. will be about 26th before I know how successful they are. No visible reaction from enemy yet.
pearl harbor - expect last of units needed to transfer to OZ to be loaded within 10 days.

Oz is about 1/2 liberated, Darwin is the next major objective.

Allied strategic objectives through December 31, 1945 – for comment

Reminder - game ends when allies have Luzon and hold one level 10 Japanese homeland base at the end of a game month. The game’s last turn is Dec 31, 1946. The allies have to go to Luzon before they invade a Japanese level 10 base. Lastly, we have agreed to no long leap invasions and allies must maintain a clear supply line. This means limited leapfrogging and few bases left behind empire. No atomic bombs. This makes it harder for the allies.

Primary objectives
Soviets – capture all of Manchukuo
Other allies – Java and ample staging for southern Philippines from Darwin
Americans – Mariana’s, Truk, and clean sailing to Pearl (probably from Gliberts)

I am beginning to work on intermediate objectives. I plan to split the combined fleets into two.


Within the context of the house rules, any thoughts on how to go faster?

Pretty quiet. Only one allied sub attack that put two into an AK near Iwo Jima.

Major activities underway include
Pearl - within 5 days the last of the troops needed to transfer will be embarked
March on Alice Springs - will take about 10 more days. empire appears to be withdrawing so there may be no contest
Mopping up around Melbourne - no resistance. will take 10 or so game days to get all bases
Lord Howe Island (near Sydney). Invasion forces should finish loading at Brisbane this turn. I bombed the hell out of the island, so it is a mop up.
Diego Garcia - continue the periodic air and sea bombardment. Fleet has gathered at Cochin (near Colombo) and the load should start in about 4 game days for an invasion in about 14. This one will be tough. There is sure to be a big fort there, but I don't have the luxury of bombing it to hell. Gonna have to do it the old fashioned way!

What do you have in the way of ship bombardment planned?

That's is THE problem. I have about 6 cruisers and 30 destroyers. It's gonna be a barn burner.

I've learned the hard way that ground bombing on the day of the invasion is a big deal, and the cruisers may absorb enough of the
to get me over the top. I have about 225 AK, AKL, LST to drive it home.

Intel has 5 units 20K men, 145 guns and 140 AFV's.

I am planning on taking as many men as will fit on those ships and rolling the dice. 90% chance I take it, but probably will toast the units for 4 months thereafter.

Mostly quiet still

Diego Garcia - several more ship and air bombardments. Amphibious fleet just left Cochin. about 6-8 days until that blasts off - or blows up.
Burma - empire has got wise to my attempts to cross the rivers to get to Moulmein - pictures to follow He has moved a dozen small units by rail to Nan and Chiang Mai. I may change tactics. It is still about 10 days before the cross. If the Diego Garcia works, I am going to use the fleet to move amphibiously on Tavoy (may take more than one step. If you recall, I stopped than when I needed to bring up more supply from Aden.
Lord Howe Island - The invasion from Brisbane hits next turn. Should be a mop up, but sending many 4E's there just in case. Also have several BB's in the amphib
Oz - mopping up continues in SE. empire still has 6 bases between Adeliade and Melbourne. 2 will fall this turn.
Tasmania - moving sub transports and ships to prepare for Tasmania, which appears to only have one unit on it.
Pearl - the last of the units bound for Oz have departed. There are about 150 lingering AK AP that will be sent shortly after refits

Shouldn't be but a mop up - we will see. Bringing only one inf regiment. Reason is empire only recently took back the island 45 days ago and only put one eng and one inf. My repeated bombings destroyed one unit and eliminated supply (unless I am mistaken with intel)

I wasn't aware that in 1945, an AE will resupply as an AKE in a replenishment TF. The things I learn about this game by playing.

Normally I would take a USN base force, but I am testing the impact of no specific naval support in the invasion, short of the LST's and LSI'Ls. I have put some of the armor on landing ship types and some not. I will watch intently on damage.

Note I have yet attach escorts to these amphib TF. I will have to strip every escort in the theater and attach them on the way.

Finally, I know what you are thinking. DG has NOOOO chance. Quite the contrary. Admiral Kamikaze is the MASTER of atoll defense. He knows every trick, even for a base on the empire periphery. If he has one of his CD's there, it will be a looong invasion.
