Resurrected CVP

Post by Courtenay »

I just had two naval battles, one in Allied impulse #3 in the North Atlantic, the second in Axis impulse #5 in the Western Med. In the first one, HMS Hermes, carrying a Nimrod, was sunk. In the second, HMS Glorious, carrying a Swordfish, was damaged. After the battle was over and Glorious limped back to Gibraltar, MWiF informed me that both the Nimrod and the Swordfish would be arriving as reinforcement the next turn. The Swordfish should be arriving, but the Nimrod should be at the bottom of the North Atlantic. This will not affect my game -- I simply will not use the Nimrod for four turns, when it would have been rebuilt -- but this is a bug that I have not seen reported yet.

I include the autosave from the Axis Non-phasing Naval Combat - Choose Sea Area step. To recreate bug, have the British initiate a fight, and have the Glorious damaged in the fight. Have the ships stay at sea, and end the fight with an unsuccessful search. When the aborted ships have all returned to base, the British will find themselves with the Glorious's Swordfish, and a Nimrod out of noplace (or rather, out of the waters of the North Atlantic.)

The problem was much more subtle than that.

The carrier air unit (a Swordfish) on the sunk carrier was correctly in the Destroyed Pool. The Nimrod moved to arrive next turn came from Alexandria, where it was aboard the Eagle. What the program was incorrectly 'remembering' was that the Nimrod had been aboard the damaged carrier earlier. When the damaged carrier was checked for carrier air units, 2 were found by the program - although there was only 1.

hello,

not sure my trouble is related but i have 3 CW CVP coming back from mediteranean's deeps.

Some have benne killed after a2a fight, other after a devastating AA fire from Reggia Maritima (9 for lesser dice...) .

Here the saved game. I haven't noticed these come back immediately so several impulse (maybe a turn) have been played since the CVP's loss.

Many of the Commonwealth carrier air units have identical names. Some even have identical other information (e.g., combat factors). The way I track these are by their unit ID numbers. What you see as a unit being resurrected may be a different unit entirely. For example, the problem Courtenay reported mentioned a unit being resurrected, but it was actually a completely different unit (currently on the map in Alexandria) that appeared as a reinforcement.

I would need a saved game from before the carrier air unit was destroyed (one example is enough) and instructions on how to recreate the problem.
