The Light Industry attacks seemed wimpy overall. The total observed LI hits was 13 (if I tallied correctly). No fighter opposition was seen at Saigon, but only 4 LI hits were made by the best of the best of the best crews in the B-29s. Recon, however shows a different story. Recon shows 10 LI hits at Saigon, and only 5 LI remaining at Rangoon. Hmm.

Samarinda, next to Balikpapan, is empty as I might have mentioned earlier. It's been under recon constantly along with several other bases, including Balikpapan which has no fighters and only 3,000+ ground troops. Tomorrow a Bn will air drop on Samarinda. A Rgt has begun planning for Balikpapan and the division which was 50% prepared for Balikpapan is changing planning to Cam Ranh Bay. The advantage is that the USA 31st ID is already unrestricted, versus the time required for PP to free up the four Australian divisions assigned, all of which are still yet to be bought out. The pace of operations seems like it will outrun the PP accumulation, so the 31st ID will work with whatever of the Australian Divs are available when the op moves forward.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

815 AV at Chungking. There was a bombardment plus armour attack, but enough engineers must have been along for the ride.
Quiet in Burma still. More B-29 groups are at Akyab, including a transfer the incurred one ops loss. There are now fighters at Saigon, and I'm sure places that I am not yet looking at too. The large horde of DD still in evidence at Tavoy.
Allied bombardments in the Pacific.
The last fleet CV will finish repairs at Truk tomorrow. The troops should load quickly and so will wait another day or two. Dry runs were conducted today to make certain all units fit with plenty of room to spare. The Amphib Force HQ was never unloaded and accumulated high disruption. They're being unloaded at Guam to recover prior to loading for the invasion. CV Bay of Bengal will be at Truk in about 3 days but I might not have her join the invasion, leaving her to train pilots a bit longer.
When Chungking falls, lots of industry will be seized and presumably begin operating as Imperial oil begins flowing in.

Obviously the next full attack will seize the city. In 2 days we get 270 AV arriving in one large (257 AV) and one small (13 AV) units. Hopefully tomorrow will be a rest day for the Imperials. Our own attack in China went much better today as the weather cleared and our bombers rendered the formerly formidable foe flat out goofy. Hopefully we will destroy that unit before it can escape. Our troops didn't even notice there was a combat, so they will continue tomorrow.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the second day in a row our new base at Samarinda has been pummeled from the air. There are no supplies at the now destroyed base, but our troops have enough to survive thanks to air drops. Bombers are coming from Soerabaja and both bombers and fighters from Tarakan. Tarakan is lightly held and seems to have only 16 fighters (45 bombers), so maybe we can shut it down from the air. Soerabaja has 53 fighters, 74 bombers, and 81 auxiliary types.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even with that 270 AV added to the Chungking garrison, it looks like he has enough to take it. Open terrain and no forts, only +2 for urban light terrain. His attack did not cause him significant casualties.
Really a shame with the allies advancing to Chungking's support from Burma. Maybe the IJA can be tricked into repairing all that industry for you before you drive him out again! [:D]
I find it somewhat annoying that HI points produced in China can automatically be used to build aircraft in Japan. Pig iron does not get across water automatically IRL. [:(]

I just want to take as big a bite out of the assault troops as possible. I know it's more points for him if that unit arrives and is lost, but with the multiplier (what is it - x2 for IJ troops and x12 for Chinese troops?) it might be worth it.
The relief for Chungking has been stalled for quite some time - no - I mean it's almost there! Yes, a shame! [:D]
Really, it would be ideal to hold his forces there until the invasion of Cam Ranh Bay, but no such luck.

1,057 AV at Chungking. The reinforcements have arrived! Here is today's bombardment (before the arrivals).
Same status in and around Burma. The large TF/convoy is at Tavoy, our guys continue to move and all else is quiet. The B-29 groups are performing maintenance and biding their time until they transfer to the Marianas Islands (possibly in hops). When we have Iwo Jima we can commence recon of the home islands. There are more than 100 fighters at Tavoy, so the Empire intends to oppose any sweeps or interference with sea traffic.

The carriers and fast battleships are leaving Truk for Guam, where they will form up with those CVE that are already there.
Wasp has finished repairs at Pearl Harbor and is leaving for Truk.
There are more fighters on duty at Neikiang too, no doubt from respect for the range of the B-29 groups.

Same in Burma, quiet, large TF/convoy at Tavoy, our troops moving. Various carrier groups have resized on board carriers at Colombo so to fill the ships' air complements.
Allied bombardments in the Pacific.
The troops are now loading for Iwo Jima; that will take either one or two days, after which the assigned Amphib Force HQ will load and catch up (disruption down to 25% from 59% after only two days on shore so far). The carriers and fast battleships will arrive at Guam tomorrow for any last minute replenishment required. Troop allocation is as described earlier, with two full size USA ID in reserve and all the rest of the prepared troops embarking for the initial assault.

The troops are now loading for Iwo Jima; that will take either one or two days, after which the assigned Amphib Force HQ will load and catch up (disruption down to 25% from 59% after only two days on shore so far). The carriers and fast battleships will arrive at Guam tomorrow for any last minute replenishment required. Troop allocation is as described earlier, with two full size USA ID in reserve and all the rest of the prepared troops embarking for the initial assault.
No idea of the IJN carriers' location(s).

Our subs got an AK, a TK, and a CV. They also sighted BB Ise in the same general area where the CV was torpedoed.
1,150 AV at Chungking, with the arrival of some units (after the bombardment). Today's bombardment.
The torpedoing of an Imperial aircraft carrier heading into the Andaman Sea and the sighting of a battleship in the same area certainly add to the interest that the many-DD TF or convoy - whatever it is - sparked a number of days ago. It might be something as simple as correctly reading the tea leaves about an Allied end-around somewhere in the Andaman Sea region, and being in position to oppose it. Weather again today prevents transferring B-29 groups to the Pacific.

The first assault wave for Iwo Jima completely loaded in one day. The Amphib HQ has recovered to 0% disruption, so will load tomorrow and catch up with the main force. The combat forces have refueled at Guam, so all TFs and convoys will move our for Iwo Jima. Tomorrow all ships will rendezvous one hex west of Pagan. That will put them 12 hexes from Iwo Jima, so call that two more days to stand off one hex, then invade the following day. The various cruiser bombardment groups will make one more run at Marianas Islands targets tonight, then move out to support the Iwo Jima invasion. That's been the main patrol ground for subs in that theatre basically forever. They take a bit of a beating overall due to heavy ASW patrolling, but it seems the only sensible to make his main route as dangerous as possible.
I'm hopeful that the four divisions will be enough at Iwo. I guess we'll know fairly soon. I think that DAW HQ is anticipating the activation of kamikazes before a decisive battle! [X(]

The Imperial carriers that were entering the Andaman Sea were not spotted today. That large TF or convoy at Tavoy appears to be heading SW but the sighting is tenuous. There might also be fewer troops at Tavoy, but again data is uncertain. Junyo is now on the sunk ships list - fat chance!
Allied bombardments in the Pacific.
There were many sightings of a couple of Imperial subs between the Marianas Islands and Iwo Jima when the carriers moved forward today, so it's a safe bet that there will be no surprise. Tomorrow most or all fleet and invasion elements will be 5 and 6 hexes from Iwo Jima.
We are sending a large pulse (>20) subs out of Guam and Babeldaob to harry movement of IJN fleet elements.

The Imperial carriers that were entering the Andaman Sea were not spotted today. That large TF or convoy at Tavoy appears to be heading SW but the sighting is tenuous. There might also be fewer troops at Tavoy, but again data is uncertain. Junyo is now on the sunk ships list - fat chance!

There were many sightings of a couple of Imperial subs between the Marianas Islands and Iwo Jima when the carriers moved forward today, so it's a safe bet that there will be no surprise. Tomorrow most or all fleet and invasion elements will be 5 and 6 hexes from Iwo Jima.
We are sending a large pulse (>20) subs out of Guam and Babeldaob to harry movement of IJN fleet elements.
Is this our last look at Chungking this game?

So now the Allied 4EB that have busied themselves mostly in Burma have a large strategic target in range - the largely undamaged Heavy Industry at Chungking: 325(36). Tomorrow all but one USA 4EB group will hit that target, with the B-29 groups at 15,000 ft and the others at 10,000 ft. With luck the AA guns present will still be largely disrupted after today's attack. I doubt it, but they go anyway.

There were air strikes by the USN carriers on a convoy at Iwo Jima. One DD damaged, two xAKL and two xAK sunk. A group of Betties flew from Chichi Jima to attack the old BBs one hex in front of the carriers and were fought off.None.
D-Day for Iwo Jima should be in three days. The Amphib command group is lagging behind (blame the staff - they're making full speed to catch up, and have officially 'damned' the engines), and one of the convoys is a hex slower than the others.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our subs got an xAK. That same xAK was reported as hit numerous times later in the day by carrier search planes, so it is unlikely she survived.
Chungking was hit pretty hard, most of all by the B-24 groups (with one B-17 group) at 10,000 ft. The B-29 groups attacked at 15,000 ft and got a number of hits, but despite having vastly more highly rated crews they achieved many fewer hits than their smaller cousins. Chungking now recons with Heavy Industry as 44(136), and I am sure that figure will change tomorrow as recon catches up. 81 heavy industry hits were claimed by the B-24/B-17 strikes, and 26 by the B-29 groups. 2 4EB were lost (maybe not both over Chungking), but all the B-29s made it home. Good thing this was a one shot deal - the B-24 and B-17 groups flew out of Ledo and now that base is far under-supplied!
Imperial units are seen heading westward out of Chungking. If they do continue into the mountains to press an offensive, that would actually be the best place for them when the Cam Ranh Bay operation moves forward.
Movement, squads upgrades and so on continue in Burma.

The IJN DD which survived the strikes on the convoy it protected yesterday was almost certainly destroyed today by another strike as she attempted to escape. The Amphib HQ will be in hex with the convoys tomorrow so D-Day will be the day after. The convoys, et al and the carriers, at al are repositioning to thwart any precise counter attacks. Tonight a 1x BB TF will bombard Iwo Jima while a 2x CA TF will bombard Chichi Jima. The bombarding ships must return to Agrihan to rearm so they have to be parceled out carefully.
Our P-38 LRCAP caught a few Helens over Samarinda but the masses of Betties did not show up today, clearly good timing by the staff at DAW HQ.
Here is the Intel screen. The jump in the point spread with the fall of Chungking was much less than I anticipated.
