I am confused by the French defense strength in the battle for Marseilles. The screenshot says that the French defense was 7. However, I see seven points of French units in the hex. The French notional should have had a strength of 3, by my calculations. (1 + 1 for city + 1 for major power home country.) Did you not include the notional? Why was the French strength 7, and not higher?
I thought I knew how to play this game....

This is because I decided to decline to use the notional. I had planned to mention this but I apparently forgot to do so.

The reason that I declined the notional was because a miscalculation of me. I counted on 23 attack forces instead of 27 and that was my major mistake in denying the notional. The difference in odds with or without the notional was almost a entire odds shift.

When counting on 23 attacking forces the likely attack would have been 3:1+1 without the notional and 2:1+2 with the notional. 3:1+1 and 2:1+2 give the exact same result on the 1d10 assault chart. I also noticed that the notional reduced the odds with slightly less than one complete odds level so therefore I, wrongly, concluded that it would be better for France if the notional was excluded. This is reasoning is completely wrong when counting with 27 attack factors and you compare 3:1+2 versus 4:1+1.

I am glad ,Courtenay, that you caught my mistake. [:)][&o]

No declarations of war.

France and CW go with land impulses.

No Port Strikes. No naval air. No naval movement.

CW decide to ground strike the advance elements of the German army. Germany send up a fighter to intercept and CW counter intercept but as usual there is just one round of air combat and the bomber is cleared.

The bomber succeed in disorganizing a Panzer Corps so the mission is declared a success.

No rail movement.

While moving the Allied units in France I get a feeling that it doesn't really matter how I place the units since they are doomed anyway. The Chinese reorganize their lines slightly to stop the Japanese infiltration of their lines.

No land combats. No reorganization.

The turn has a 30% chance of ending and France would truly appreciate if Axis did not get another impulse this turn.
