First attack is in Ichang, China

It's a 3:1 no modifiers on the Assault Table....

....9! The Chinese lose two units and the 3rd is Shattered. The only good news is that the Japanese are disorganised and there is a US Entry roll - hussah!

Has Franco fled Spain for the sunny beaches of Tangier yet?

(Commander Kruge has some advice for him.)

(I apologise if this comes across as nagging, seeing as it's been suggested already by me and others. It's just an interesting, and pressing, question since the summer is here again and the Spanish front along the Ebro has collapsed.)

No he hasn't. Juggling naval with land with combined with trying to end turns with a lack of units to form a cohesive line with..... well you get the picture.

The next attack is automatic on Zagreb. The unit Cavalry Corps did its job and saved Belgrade for a little longer, but not much else....

Next up its the turn of the Seville Militia to face an automatic attack as the Germans continue to exploit the gap that is the entire eastern seaboard of Spain.

An entire Panzerarmee has broken through, overrunning an RAF Hurricane...

A key attack coming up now. The Germans are light on numbers in Spain and could do with a swift victory here. This is a 3:1 no modifiers on the Assault Table....

....10 Wow - the luck is with the Axis this turn. Another 9/10 on land attacks... there is nothing the Allies can do about this. The 5th Infantry Corps and 2nd Infantry Division are destroyed.

good to see some views of the Chinese front, thanks

I'd rebuild the Mohawk for China, especially with this new map

the Chinese could have taken the Blitz table there and then only lost one unit…the Peking MiL can't be replaced.

Yugoslavia is hard to defend in any case. Rumania can pile on after Hungary.

Here is the Chinese Front. The Japanese are strung out, still making their way slowly back from smashing the communists, but are starting to get into position to resume the offensive south...

The challenge you are experiencing in simultaneously operating the Royal Navy and CW land forces on the defensive lead some Allied players to align Spain to the French, or the Free French. This creates other minor cooperation problems, as for example the RAF couldn't support Spanish units. That works out OK as the RAF is usually focused on the struggle at sea during an Axis Spanish campaign.

This can also be a good choice for the Yugoslavians.

Probably makes more sense with the Yugoslavs as I am unlikely to get the chance to put units in that country anyway. However for Spain, I think I prefer the flexibility of having the CW as he controlling power. End of the day, all I really care about is Gibraltar, and anything I can do to throw obstacles in the way is good. Of course aligning with France does not stop that - its just the hassle of FTC that makes it a real drag....

Or does FTC not apply here?

No FTC … a Major Power does not have to operate under the FTC rules to enter a minor aligned to a Major Power on it's side, even if it doesn't cooperate with that Major. Thus the CW can also enter French North Africa, although the capitals are not secondary supply sources for CW units.

If Spain goes with a surrendered France, the French might also be able to use the output of the Spanish factories for a few turns (particularly either of Bilbao or Barcelona while under siege) and get a couple new units on the board. It still sounds like managing all that would be….interesting…..in MWiF.

But the Spanish troops not cooperating with the CW creates it's own set of problems. It is a trade-off of pluses & minuses.

When the CW is operating on land, the Royal Navy needs to leave strong squadrons at sea to contest the zone on the first impulse of the next turn, and possibly later on into the turn if the CW needs to take a Land or Combined to dress their lines on land. A pair of BB and good CA work well for this, particularly when the CW has both of their Beaufighters available for cover.

The weather severely restricts options for the Allies - they are limited to shuffling a few units in China and Yugoslavia, while continuing the build up of Soviet forces opposing the Germans in Poland.

The Germans align Romania without any US penalty (there was no throw?).

I forgot to move Prince Paul [8|]. I have really mucked up on Yugoslav play this game - to an extent I cannot expect a real opponent to do. I will therefore purposely not surround and put them out of supply.

With the weather as it is the Germans are unlikely to make much headway on Gibraltar. That being the case the might as well try and get rid of Spanish units.

The make one ground strike - against Madrid - using their best Stuka. If is an abject failure...

..the odds are too low and the Germans decide against any attacks in Spain this impulse.

The weather toll is a 2(4) and that brings Fine weather everywhere (except (North Monsoon - Rain).

The Allies have a 30% chance of the turn ending if they all pass. With little practical to do, there is limited downside in not going for it....

...4 - it fails!

The Germans try ground striking Prince Paul and the Yugoslav Mountain unit and succeed against both. Incredibly two 7's are rolled against the Allied units in Madrid
