Took the plunge...question about artillery

In the age of Pike and Shot, mighty struggles erupted across Europe for causes religious, political or dynastic. The Thirty Years War raged across Germany and beyond, leaving devastation in its wake, but saw the rise of great commanders such as Count Tilly, Wallenstein and King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden, and rapid developments in battlefield tactics.

Took the plunge...question about artillery

Post by pacwar »

I took the plunge and am working my way through the tutorial...early in the tutorial when describing unit types it noted medium artillery cannot limber/move, which is consistent with my understanding of the period...but later when hovrering over the medium artillery the message suggested you can limber and move with related delays...which is it?

Finished the first scenario and while it seemed that the program would let me limber the artillery, which I didn't try, it would not let me pivot the artillery, claiming I didn't have enough "AP" points...

It will let you pivot them, but only 45 degrees per turn.

The original game design did not allow artillery to relimber once unlimbered, but we were prevailed upon by our Slitherine mentors to take pity on the players and allow them to relimber. The tutorial message obviously needs to be patched accordingly.

It wasn't unknown. Torstensson did it at the battle of Jankau, for example.

It is a slow process though - one turn to relimber, then move one square per turn, then one turn to limber, then cannot fire until player's next turn. Better to find one good position and maximise the number of shots fired.
