Multiple breakthroughs STEF78 (Axis) Oshawott (USSR)

Post by STEF78 »

Turn 164, 3rd august 1944

I've reached august 1944!!! [:)]

Nothing to be proud about but it was worth playing these last turns.

Situation is just disastrous, 63 points left, Budapest threatened, Prag not safe

It's kind of funny to see the Germans making their last stand in Austria, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary, with Germany itself already completely lost.

We should place bets on which city will be the last to fall before final defeat. My money is on Vienna.

Or Klagenfurt, I've never lost this city

Case study STEF78 (Axis) Oshawott (USSR)

Post by STEF78 »

Turn 165, 10th august 1944

It's like a chess case study for Oshawott. Can he get the 9 last VP this turn?

Prag 5
Karlsbad 1
Brunn 3
Szolnok 1
Karcag 1
Nyireguhasa 1
Kassa 1
Linz 3

I'd say not, but it would depend on how good your garrison is in Prag and I'd be surprised if he could take Brunn (depends on how strong your forces are in that sector)

Maybe he should be forced to replay the turn till he manages it?

8 are easy to achieve (Prag + Karlsbad + Szolnok + Karcag)

9 are difficult but it makes the task interesting

Last turn STEF78 (Axis) Oshawott (USSR)

I have some emotion while playing this last turn. It means the end of several hundreds of hours of play.

Sure I will need some rest!

I admire your willingness to stick with it and fight to the bitter end Stef78. As for the last turn - it's kind of anticlimactic. You sunk hundreds of hours into this great game and on the very last turn all you get is a simple victory points tally!

Sorry, but one more turn. I just couldn't get enough infantry to make a successful attack on Prague. Under normal circumstances I would have never even tried this attack. Tanks against heavy urban hex is a disaster.

It is, however, shocking to see you troops now surrender even so they are not isolated. About 35 divisions surrendered this turn. They desperately try to find a retreat path moving over 6, 7, 8 hexes and then just give up.

agree, it must have been dispiriting ever since Oshawatt pulled his trick north of Kiev. But its remained a fascinating read, so credit to both of you

I must admit that Kiev pincer was a harsh blow. Very well played by Oshawott.

But in fact I'm surprised to reach end august 1944
