New AAR underway

Korsun Pocket is a the second game using the award winning SSG Decisive Battles game engine. Korsun Pocket recreates the desperate German attempt to escape encirclement on the Russian Front early in 1944. The battle is a tense and exciting struggle, with neither side having a decisive advantage, as the Russians struggle to form the pocket, then try to resist successive German rescue efforts and last ditch attempts at breakout.

Excellent. we are all keen to hear about new features in the game.

And if you find a great tactic find a way to tell me without letting on to anybody else ;)

Yeah come and watch my butt get flogged again :)

Actually you will find new strategies just from watching the AAR, there are significant differences between this version and the TAO2 version.. take particular note of what happens way way way up north.. thats right nothing! It is impossible for any German player to get through those strongpoints..
Isn't that bizarre?

Yeah it's gonna be a though battle for german army. I don't know much about KP battle from historical point of view so I ordered book about it, Douglas E. Nash "Hell's Gate: The Battle of the Cherkassy Pocket January - February 1944".

Hi Peter,

I got that book a couple of months ago - it's a very readable and fascinating account of the battle; I can thoroughly recommend it.

On the edges of the map, I noticed that the reinforcement hexes now come in 2 colours.

And along the bottom edge a hex with a target reticle of some sort.

Is there a reason for this?

The Soldier icon in the Reinforcement hex changes colour to green the turn before reinforcements arrive at that hex, hence you will now see impending troop arrivals easier.

The Target icons can be used to show Objective town hexes - there are several of these towns along the bottom of the Ardennes map edge.

Amazon just sent me an email that they don't have Douglas E. Nash "Hell's Gate: The Battle of the Cherkassy Pocket January - February 1944" so they can't get it for me from their suppliers either, Chris do you know a good place where I could get this book ?

After all this time of lurking... Here is the publisher's page for Hell's Gate:

Looks like it is still in stock.

Wow, I just checked Amazon and it is $45.50. Quite a difference in price! That was where I got mine from several months ago. Maybe worth trying to order again from Amazon. Their info on availability seems to change often.

We are currently up to turn 6.. I have just posted the score as:

"The score currently has me leading by 234 points. But if there were no further changes to town ownership or combat, the allies would win by 134 points. This is due to the value of towns changing over time. For example, some of the towns Chris holds he may not be getting points for yet, but in future turns he will get points for hanging onto them. For example Chris currently does not get any VPs for holding Manhay, come turn 16 though this is a different story.

So Im not winning by any stretch of the imagination."

Remember the engine is now quite different.. so its hard to draw comparisons. Its probably better to have a look at how the battle is unfolding.. and see how it is different to your game..
