Movement Bug

Post by spence »

It seems some kind of movement bug is operating the latest Beta. As Allies in a PBEM I gave orders for several units to MOVE TO BATAAN FROM MANILA. I didn't pay any especial attention to these units thereafter until they moved to Lamon Bay. Although units can not move directly from Manila to Bataan there is no reason that they should choose to take the more difficult secondary road for a longer distance rather than the rail/primary road that runs through Clark Field.

A screen shot is included. As you can see the orders are for the unit to move to Bataan but it has progressed 20 miles to the East of Manila. What gives with this?

This has happened to me many times long before the latest Beta.

The AI seems to have pathing problems and it's best to move to Clark and then to Bataan.

I think you don't give order to this LCU. At 7th december there are some LCU with a default movement order: one is allied 31st Inf.Rgt. from Manila versus E (and maybe more, but I'm not expert about allied things), for the jap side there are some LCU that move NW from Battambang versus Mergui & Tavoy, and others in China that moves SW from Sinyang to Hankow.

I guess you're right. And after moving only 24850 miles or so it will reach its destination which is one hex to the WEST. Not a bug...WAD then except for the WHY?

Most likely it was an oversight and no one ever corrected it in the follow on data updates.

The destination of the unit is clearly set to Bataan which is one hex to the West.

The unit is set to move to the East.

The transportation lines to the destination are more favorable than those which run to the East even though the unit must first move to the NW before moving to the destination. No matter how one cuts it moving to the East puts the unit further from its ordered destination in both hexes and movement points.

So which order governs? Since the computer determines what direction to march to destination more often than not the answer is important for players' understanding of future situations.

AFAIK it still has to do with the (errant) orders preexisting in the scenario files.
