But I played two complete games of War in Europe and one full game of War in the Pacific (the board game) [X(]

Nicky Palmer, in his book about board wargaming, said he mounted War in Europe on a cork board and put it on the wall. And used push pins for the counters. Like he said, "How often are you going to play it anyway?"

Even though many Grand Campaigns never finish, both sides usually know who really "won" by the game end- whether somebody quit annoyingly or work got in the way or whatever. Its just whether or not they are willing to admit it...
because people don't usually quit a game they are winning do they?

I just cleaned out my basement and pitched a couple dozen old games out. Felt like burying an old friend! I suppose i should have offered them up here first....oh well.

When first married, and living as a Marine instructor at a reserve station in Denver (Poppa Battery 5/14 M107 Self Propelled Howitzers [later M110a2] 1984-1986), I covered a wall in the extra room with plywood and then mounted the War in the East (2nd Edition) map on it. The game pieces were adhered with artists putty. My wife Kathy, by my request, played as the Russians while I was the Germans. We didn't get more than two or three turns into the game before she lost interest, but I will always appreciate her patience and willingness to help her husband enjoy his favorite game.

Kathy feels (and quite rightly so) that she has learned more about World War 2 than she ever wanted to know.

I also have war in the Pacific (board game) plus many others stacked in my basement.

Oh, say it isn't so. Now that I have more room in the house (empty nester) I pulled all my old games from out of the garage, fully expecting to have to chuck 'em due to mildew or whatever. Surprisingly they held up nicely.
