Nice Game - Thank you

Time of Fury spans the whole war in Europe and gives players the opportunity to control all types of units, ground, air and naval. Not only that, each player will be able to pick a single country or selection of countries and fight his way against either the AI or in multiplayer in hotseat or Play by E-Mail. This innovative multiplayer feature will give player the chance to fight bigger scenarios against many opponents, giving the game a strategic angle that has no equal in the market. The game uses Slitherine’s revolutionary PBEM++ server system.

Nice Game - Thank you

Post by DonCzirr »

I felt compelled to post my appreciation of this game based on recent experience.

I am very much into atmosphere and "feel" when it comes to Movies, games etc - and I have to say that this game is just outstanding with the "Normal" map and Agent-2 Icons.

A true pleasure to operate in and maneuver.

When I first came to TOF, I had been looking for something that would get close to the appearance / atmosphere of HOI 3 but be truly turn based.

TOF has exceeded my expectations in that regard. Rather than just accepting the visuals as war gamers usually have to do in order to enjoy game play, the whole package is great.

Of course, there is the large list of issues (highlighted in other threads) that make the game only playable with some adjustments or make only certain scenarios viable - but

for those parts alone - I consider the 20$ I paid - well spent.

I truly hope Slitherine decides to back this game series and bring out its full potential.

I'm off to play Gotterdammerung as the Soviets now ... which is turning out to be my favorite.

Good work guys and good luck ....

There is a great game in here, more depth than many people realise and I also hope that support will continue. Most problems can be adjusted, or corrected with the use of F12, or small modifications to game files. I have mainly used 'Fall Gelb', but would like to use a modified 'Gotterdammerung', starting end of 1943, to allow for some realistic preparations for major amphibious operations using house rules. The non-functioning combat modifiers for terrain and cities are a bigger problem here, because for a credible Italian campaign, you need the effects of the hilly and mountainous terrain.

The issue of v1.06 on STEAM, even though it has it's own problems, indicates that there may still be some more development. I am sticking with v1.05 for now, but hoping that 'Wastelands' can fix the terrain/city modifiers (it shouldn't be too hard, as these modifiers do work for Poland - No 1 in the countries list). A self install fix would do the job. [&o]

Like to see how you get on and if you need any suggestions. [:)]

Thanks for the offer Rasputitsa and I'll report back when I get into the campaign further.

I am a bit of an East Front fanatic, so the ability to play the USSR (only) and focus on whipping up my own version of Bagration is a thrilling prospect.

In "Time of xxx" it would be nice to expand on the current flexibility (playing even minor countries) and split the German control so one could play as only OKH in the East.

Further granularity like that may also bring in some folks that are oriented towards another front or are intimidated by trying to run the whole show at once.

Even playing 'Fall Gelb', France is fairly easy and the Eastern Front inevitably becomes the main issue, but the advantage in ToF is that you have to play the whole thing. No artificial unit withdrawals, fixed rules on allocation of forces to other fronts, set production schedules, all of this is your decision.

You decide how much force to leave in the East, whilst you deal with the Western Allies, or how much to leave in the West when you get involved on the Eastern Front. You get the production decisions, aircraft, or tanks - fighters, or bombers, how many to each front and you have to deal with the problems and adjust strategy when things don't go as expected.

Not many games give you the total experience, which otherwise would done by compromise rules, which can never replicate the real historical balancing act which was the Axis at war.

I do hope the combat modifiers get fixed for an early 'Gotterdammerung', because the Allies have the same balancing act with allocation of force for a realistic amphibious campaign. Scenarios on this subject usually start with D-Day, when in reality most of the decisions had to be taken months before the landings, as after the landings had taken place, it's a foregone conclusion and just a matter of time. The nail-biting bit is, can you get enough of the right forces together at the right place, at the right time (and where is the right place/places ?), before the Axis moves forces in to where you have committed to land, the rest is straight forward in comparison.

See discussion on Amphibious Operations : tm.asp?m=3175683

With realistic planning and preparation house rules (done), even the dumb AI might move units onto the beach-heads you were committed to use weeks earlier, or the drop zones for allocated to ABN forces. Then what ?

It becomes obvious why the Allies waited until they had built up overwhelming force and even then the landings may have gone badly, especially with the ToF feature of having landings aborted sometimes, that can hurt if you haven't built in extra. Very few games come close to the reality of large scale amphibious operations.

The more scenarios and the more choices the better for everyone, but right now getting the combat modifiers fixed would be good. [:)]
