Taskforce size and AI bomber targetting

Post by Mike_B20 »

I've just started a PBEM game, my first, and find myself wondering about the optimum sizes of various taskforces.

Given that the AI air targetting seems centred pretty much around TF's individually and not free combat in an area of ocean, the system seems open to abuse.

Surely, by splitting TF's up into individual ships as much as possible, the AI targetting system can be bypassed.
An individual lone ship TF can be hit by multiple airstrikes.

Perhaps Matrix should review this aspect of combat and change the system to target an ocean hex, instead of individual TF's.
The ships in a hex could be put into a collective pool (pun intended :) ) of possible targets and targets randomly determined by a weighted method.
Mutually supporting flak of taskforces would of course be taken into account.
No more "Unable to locate target" messages when the priority target is sunk, they'd just go for another target in the pool.
Using a system like this would encourage players to use larger convoys for the mutual flack protection they offer.

Anyway, just wondered what you guys think on this subject.
I've decided to eschew the gamey choice of multiple individual ship TF's and group them by capacity instead.
Never give up, never surrender
