In about the last 5 days, Japan has lost 6 land combat victory points....the Allies 30. [&o] Almost all losses in Burma. Jungle. Monsoon. A pretty high percentage of those lcu vp losses for the Allies are tanks and that makes me feel good.

I would like to hold on to Lashio, and if the troops there can weather one more attack with the help of the 4th ID, I feel that I can. Of course once he regroups his 1000 tanks it is hard to see how I can stand up to prolonged attacks; but by then I should be pushing on his supply line.

I need to bleed Allied pools white! Dry! Whatever, you get the point.

Night attacks: Allies bomb the Raheng triangle, but the Irving-S squadron doesn't fly. Thunderstorms, but I accidentally put them on sweep[:-]. But we are bombed and lose three on the ground. Pity.

In the Solomons, the Allies move on Ontong and Jakes sortie at night...to no effect. Still scary I think for the Americans.

Numerous attacks in China go well; Allies attack in Burma:

Tuang Gyi gets the routine Allied bombardement for a few disablements this time...Japan now has as 1200 to 800 advantage in raw assault value, but that heading to Lashio-Mandalay line.

Lashio: The 4th ID jumps off the transport planes, an odd assortment of troops and weapons, but they get into the trenches just in time for the Allied attack and force the Allies back to a 1-2 attack and for now Japan holds.

The Allies are wearing themselves out attacking at Lashio, four consecutive shock attacks; only one Allied Unit has any assault value anymore and that is the 158th Sep. Infantry - Yanks. The three tank units are shot. Combine this with the mauling I gave the other group of Tanks down the dirt road to Tuang Gyi, and the Allies must be nervous as Japan moves the fresh 1st Tank Division, 2 ID, and Tanks against his line of supply...

Bassein: No attack yet, but the Allies are still crossing the river into 900 assault value of defenders plus 8 ART units including some big ones. Should be fun if they continue! I have the potential to deliver an awfull beating on him if he continues.

SE of Prome: Allies are retreating out of here back to Prome. Shucks. The 2nd Guards Division dug in is simply too tough a nut for them to crack. With 1000 tanks in the jungles at Lashio, or near there, and another strong group moving across from Bassein, I wonder if in a little bit I couldn't make another push on Prome. Depends what happens in the jungle crossing at Bassein.

Solomons: Allies invade Ontong -- eastern Solomons. I have noticed a trend in American landings, the landing ship arrive in the afternoon and get one bombardment and one phase of unloading. Ontong was held only by a small COY, and pretty much got trashed by the naval bombardment, but the Allies landed very little and no support troops. This would have been a good location for an 8 hex carrier strike backed up by land based air. Unfortunately, the KB has 3 more days of upgrades and then steaming time from Japan. I might put together a land base air attack...especially maybe sweeps.

I am going to put up a strong LRCAP over Lashio this turn. I don't know if it will intercept an paratroop drop, but they should at least close on some pesky B24s.

I will most likely stop flying in the 4th ID there, for fear of the air base being bombed back to the stone ages, and instead move the transports and fly in some paratroops now that the main threat is infantry.

Float planes really operate in a different way.[:)]

You will remember I have been using Petes and Alfs to great success as disrupting night fighters....but the odd thing is they have no Escort toggle at night. Instead it is Sweep, but they fly CAP and do a great job.

Irving-S NF will not fly CAP using the Sweep radio toggle, which is what happened last time.

Lashio has LR CAP from Zeroes and Oscars....

Lashio is getting more reinforcements this time from Paratroops...

Moving aggressively north up the dirt road to threaten the Lashio Mandalay road...

Bay of Bengal surprise fleet is not spotted and hunting...

Troops awaiting the river crossing east of Bassein...eagerly...

Major surface fleets at Mergui...

In the Marshall/Solomons: fast transports are getting supplies to Roi Namur; some Kates on night naval attack; other bases getting supply; trying to stay away from Allied carriers.

If they help cover the gaps and let you survive till the better night fighters come along, then all those 'useless' planes have found a good use beyond just trainers.

Misc Allied night bombing. No real damage.

We execute a small CAP trap over Lashio, catch some B25s (down 7 of them). Oscars are a little disappointing on the attack, but the A6M5c does very well.

Another good attack in China, in days Chungking will be surrounded.

Allies bombard in Tuang Gyi, no damage. No attack, I repeat no attack at Lashio. And to make matters even better the road to Lashio sees the Allies further splitting up their tanks. We will see how unsupported tanks in the jungle do against IJA 43 Squads!

Tis true it was your idea![&o] It takes some healthy AA units there too...but it does work very well.

No attack at Bassein -- but Allied forces are still crossing the river. Probably 8 days plus to do it.

You could make a pretty clever trap here, simply having lots of junk units, and then simply starting one unit moving and continually cancelling the movement...with no intention of every crossing the river but feinting to weaken the lines elsewhere.

2 or 3 more days for the KB to be formed up again and head out.

I set up a Rufe trap at Kusaie.

Aggressive use of the Allied carriers or destroyers could nail some small resupply convoys...

Fast transport of supplies into Roi Namur worked perfectly...never knew I was there.

That is good. FT working pretty well in game. They don`t transport lot of supplies but enough to keep troops alive.
Look close at ship damage they accumulate loot of engine and sys damage when moving at full.

PS. What i miss in FT mission is lack of ability to pick-up troops from base. Like in reality they could be used to evacuate forward garrisons.

I think he wants to drop supplies and pick up units. I miss this in air transport too.

Night bombing again in Burma. No damage.

Day sweeps drop 20 A6M5c for 2 Corsairs, but I avoid the Jugs and Lightning sweeps. Finish flying in Paratroops to Lashio, I have decided to continue to air transport in elements of the fighting 4th ID.

Two days or less and Chungking is surrounded.

Allies firm up their hold on Ontong in eastern Solomons.

Rufes spring a trap on some 4Es, they lack speed and stamina to do any damage.

Another good attack in China, no attack at Bassein, troops still fording the river into the teeth of some great Japanese units. Seems like suicide to me.

No, no, no.

Not much night bombing and no damage done, except for the loss of an Alf.

No attack at Bassein today, movement arrows still there. At Lashio, Allies reinforce with another motorized brigade and manage by scant points to get a 2-1 forcing the IJA to retreat. Shame.[:(] Burma road is still closed however...

In China, another Chinese corp surrenders. IJA forces control all but one of Chungking's adjacent hexsides.

In the Solomons, one of the big Carrier groups of Americans races north to within three hexes of Truk, and launches a raid on Truk and shipping close by. A SC and an xak sunk, some ships lightly damaged in port at Truk including the Nagato's which really absorb most of the strike but are only lightly damaged -- their armor simply shrugged off the bombs. A counter strike of Lillies gets thru CAP and targets destroyers -- missing.

Complacency on my part [:-]...The attack on Truk looks very nasty in the replay, and now I need to decide if I try to get a night engagement or simply flee north to Guam and try for a large air strike. Or mass for a strike at Ontong? Choices.

China:

You can see aggressive use of bypassed Chinese units to cut supply line. Pretty much this doesn't work, although it is impossible to see how much supplies spoil or are lost in transit, but I continue to have enough to proceed ahead.

Is a valid strategy to isolate Chungking, but not take it. Bleed it with artillery strikes and send divisions to hold the Tsuyung to Chengtu road; and the Kunming to Chungking road?

You can surround it so that resources cannot enter Chungking. Once the resource stocks are depleted, Chungking will have to fall back on the auto-generated supply. The city has forts and +2 terrain - you have to bring lots of artillery to make a difference there.

1) Isolate Chungking
2) Kill rest of troops, if possible
3) Use PP to buy out some of your best troops.
