HQ wilderness

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

HQ wilderness

Post by U2 »

Hi all,

first of all thanks for a great game. Bought it yesterday [:)]

I am feeling lost when it comes to HQ and which units they command. Some are simple to understand by checking the counters, some are not.

"HQ scout" for example and no counters with "scout" on them. Which units does it controll? That was just an example. Checking all the tiny letters on counters is becoming a strain.

Is there a button that I have missed to see which units belong to which HQ and which HQ an HQ belong to?

It's all very easy in Panzer/Modern Campaigns to know this with different colours and units being highlighted.

A noob thanks you for any help!! [:D]

Look in the OB tab. Sounds like you are talking US forces here.

Also, check the color code of the upper right corner of the unit counter. Those are assigned to the top 2 levels of command. Those "HQ Scout" units are often Task Force assets and have their own color. Scout Platoons of tank and mech battalions will have the color code of their parent battalion.

For stock scenarios, you could always go and rename the units, too. The names used are sometimes too long to fit on the counter.

In the functions display area you will see the OB tab. This is where you will find which unit is attached to which HQ.

I would run through all those tabs so that you know what is there. They are important to be able to check on the status and functions of your forces and your situation.

Good Hunting.

I believe the developers have said the next game in the series will be done about this time next year,

It remains to be seen just how much you can trust them.[X(]

Good Hunting.

U2, you can also Ctrl+ left click any unit on the map, all of the subunits will get a yellow band on them and the selected unit gets a full highlight. You can also do the ctrl+left click on the OOB tree and the units on the map will highlight.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

Thanks. That was even easier to use.

I came up with Another noob question after having played a lot yesterday. I know I can press ctrl-L to view LOS from a hex currently occupied by a unit. But I want to be able to see LOS from hexes without units so I can plan in advance where to place units. Possible?

"Ctrl-L (Line of Sight/LOS) – Create a LOS overlay for the currently selected unit at the currently selected map location. Once active you can Shift-Click any hex to see the LOS from that location."

So, shift-click lets shows you see for a selected hex what the LOS from there would be for the currently selected unit.

Actually, you need not do the Ctrl-L before shift-left clicking. Select a unit, then shift-click on a hex. If there is a unit in the hex, be sure to avoid clicking on the unit counter itself.
