Post by Apollo11 »

Hi all,

Perhaps you didn't know but friendly laid mines can change from "defensive" to
"offensive" - therefore beware !

Explanation:

If you lay mines in your base (i.e. you are laying "defensive" minefield) and
enemy then takes over your base your mines will now become "offensive".

I think this is done because, when you base falls, the data of how your
initial mines were laid is lost. Nice touch.

Interesting isn't it...

Yeah it's been that way for some time now, just noticed it? Anyway it can be quite a nasty surprise if you fail to remember it:)

I'd say the chances this was done deliberately is about 0%; it simply didn't occur to the designers that it would be a problem.

And the idea that, say, if the US laid a defensive minefield at Luganville, the ONLY copy of the map of the minefield in the entire US Navy was at Luganville, and the map would be lost if the Japanese captured Luganville, is beyond silly.

More likley is, new paths would be cut through the old mine field and old paths would be mined over. Much more economical than sweeping the old mine field and then planting all new mines.

i found out the hard way. The South Dakota is now on her way back to Pearl after a bombardment run on my old base Nevea.
