Extortion and blackmail are both good options. You can threaten to beat him up, assuming you are the bigger and stronger one. If the stick doesn't work, try the carrot: tell him the hot chicks really dig guys who play WW2 grand strategic or tactical games.

The influence by his friends cannot be ignored in particular the opposite sex.
My 13-year-old son did. He tried once but gave up because of too long the learning curve.
