Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

There's great play with the basic set alone; supplemental sets expand play with well conceived variations. Started with basic and added "Lost Battles" when it became available.

Yes, the expansions add a lot of smaller scenarios that help you play some situations that you may not get in normal play vs the AI. They are great ways to gain experience in other portions and abilities in the game.

Actually the best item on the sale I think and maybe the only one I grab this year from Matrix, which is kinda sad.

Is the manual that ships with the box addition worthless due to all the changes? Trying to decide to go digital or hard copy.(love manuals, but if everything has changed, not sure want to wast the extra $$$)

So I can play the whole eastern campaign from 1941 to 1945 in a single long campaign?

Not quite. You play until one side or the other reaches automatic victory -- or until the end of game in 1945 if neither side wins automatically.

The manual that ships with the boxed version contains just the first five chapters of the total manual which is only available in electronic format. The manual in the box isn't bad and helps getting your feet wet but overall it's lacking a large part of the game.
