The Sale Alert Thread!

Post by rhondabrwn »

Tis the Season to buy games on the cheap :)

I was thinking that starting a "sales" thread might be more efficient than having individual threads for every game someone spots for sale somewhere.

Steam has good prices on Euro-Truck 2 Simulator and all DLC's for 85% off (one day only) I posted on that separately.

Gamer's Gate has some good prices on the Graviteam franchise (Achtung Panzer - Operation Star ($8.75) and all of it's add on campaigns).

Word to the wise... comparison shop before buying... Steam and Gamer's Gate do not price concurrently... they can be wildly different or you can save an extra 10 to 20% by buying from one or the other.

I LOVE holiday game shopping! Are you with me!

Happy Holidays!
Love & Peace,

Far Dareis Mai

Thanks Rhonda. It is good to compare Steam and Gamer's Gate because the do indeed have different prices.

Graviteam franchise (Achtung Panzer - Operation Star

Ah, one of my favorite games of all time. But honestly, at this point, Id direct people to purchase the Steam version just for the ease of patching, something not so in all other versions.

My suggestion would be to pick up Hannibal: Rome and Carthage from Matrix for only $10. I'm finding out that it is one fantastic and overlooked game. Very well done and much deeper than it would appear.

My boyfriend suggests a program called "PC Parts Picker" for all you people wanting to find the best deals in electronics and then price match them where you shop for the best deals potential.

You'd need to actually know what you were looking at of course.
I tend to just ask him what I want and let him tell me.
Why pretend I have a clue eh :)

I'm trying to avoid software though. Going to see if I can get MORE wargaming in with cardboard. If you see any good deals from the cardstock vending companies we like let me know.

Yep, this thread is for any sale items, board games included! I don't see any problem with including hardware items as well.

I think that most everything on Gamer's Gate these days just gives you a Steam Key anyway so you can pretty freely go with either source based on pricing. Key on Gamer's Gate is the message that says "DRM: Requires a third-party download and account" i.e. Steam

Just checked though and Achtung Panzer is a Gamer's Gate download so your advice to get it on Steam is correct.

BREAKING NEWS:

Just checked on Steam again and there is a name change, apparently due to ownership rights??? Anyway, the Steam version is called "Graviteam Tactics: Operation Star" and is now discounted 85% to $4.49 as are all the related DLC packs (80 to 90% discount). Operation Star is the base product you need to run the various other Graviteam Tactics products.

The name change is why I couldn't find Achtung Panzer on Steam. Thanks for helping me find my way to it :)

Edit: Offer expires on December 2nd!

I find it hard to go for just this one version type game over Ageod's Ale Jete Est plus all its expansions. But, to each their own. I understand the ai is great in both of them.

Apples to oranges. Hannibal: Rome and Carthage is a much smaller scoped tile based game that plays very quickly. It doesn't mire itself down in complexity, yet it moves to very plausible results. I like the tactical decisions during battle and the specific special rules and cards work well without overwhelming the player. It also has period artwork that fits in just right. A fresh look.

I own Ageods game, but unfortunately, like most of their other titles, they just didn't get my time. I have plenty of complex games, sometimes I just want to sit and play something fluid. That's where H:R&C comes in. Besides, it also has one of the best interactive tutorials I've come across.

I like both apples and oranges, just at different times.

Not for everyone. Confusing UI, No Multiplayer, Resource Hog, Poor Documentation, Subpar Infantry Model compared to CM

But man does it have its strengths. The Sokolovo DLC would be the one to get if you wanted to add to the base game IMO. The campaign really is a slugfest as you battle over an area for several days. Thanks for the heads up.

Finally broke down and bought Goat Simulator w/MMO Expansion on Steam last night for 33% off ($6.69)

You should go and read the reviews on both Steam and on Gamer's Gate... many are marvelously funny parodies of the whole role playing genre.

Just checked and the game is back to it's full price again $9.99, but it will be discounted again...you just need the patience of a... goat.

My wife has played that game quiet a bit and laughed her butt off the whole time.

Very cool! [8D]

I saw the game for $6.69 at Steam a couple days ago and was going to PM you but remembered that you had originally said under $5.00 so I held off. It'll probably go back on sale tomorrow for $2. [:D]

I bought the game "This War of Mine" a couple days ago and have become engrossed in it. It's a bit on the opposite side of the spectrum from wargaming. In the game you manage a house with 3-4 civilians in it who are in a war zone and must scavenge the city for their needs to survive. You make things out of scavenged parts such as water collectors, small animal traps, beds, chairs and other things to keep your peeps fed, warm, entertained and able to fend off looters. It's a pretty interesting game, especially for me as a wargamer. It's sort of the other side of war, the side of the civilian casualties. [:(] There's even a link when you get to the menu screen of the game to donate to a group called "War Child" which is a charity to help children in war torn regions of the world (not part of the game but to donate real money for real). The mood music during the game is kind of depressing to listen to and your faced with all kinds of moral dilemmas, such as when a child comes and knocks on the door and asks you for medicine for his mom who is sick. You can turn away the child and your peeps feel rotten but you save your medicine for when your peeps get sick or you can give the kid what he needs if you have it on hand and your peeps feel good the next day but without meds for themselves, sort of like "morale" in a wargame, you must keep the spirits of your peeps up so they stay healthy and can scavenge at night as well as defend the homestead.

Very interesting concept game.

+1 for This War of Mine. Love the fresh take on the genre. It really makes you see things from another perspective, and there aren't any zombies or other supernatural nonsense. Not that there's anything wrong with those things :)

I've bought 3 things so far and been disappointed. I got that Rise of Nations special Gold and it wasn't like I remembered it. Bleh removed from hd faster than it installed. 2nd game Sword of Islam to play CKII as the muslims. Was ok, worked but didn't excite me too much as it wasn't that different from playing the other side. Got Caesar in Gaul for Rome II, eh, it's a mod they sold as an expansion. The ai in Rome II is so easy it was just a charity buck though so no biggie.

That's why I like buying games at a big discount. They usually aren't what they are hyped up to be and disappointing. At $50 I would have screamed when these games were new and I bought them.

I keep looking at Unity of Command for $4.99. What's the difference in the original UoC and this Stalingrad one with expansions?

Someone really sell me on Advanced Tactics GOLD. I have the original one, what makes gold so special? The original one was kinda bleh to me too. I want voice activated wargames now.

Gamer's Gate has "The Last Federation" for $10 (half price). It's received some very good reviews and is a unique approach to SciFi empire building.

The reason I mention this right now (sale runs for 18 days, so no rush) is because Gamer's Gate put out a 20% Discount "Thank You" credit which expires tomorrow (I assume a lot of you got it if you've been buying from Gamer's Gate). Thinking that for $8 I might go with this one rather than waiting. Kinda hate to lose out on the credit... on the fence at the moment.

http://www.gamersgate.com/DD-TLF/the-last-federation

I've kinda bought myself into a stupor at the moment... have so many games it will take all of my high speed download cap for two months just to get them installed! I did this last year too... bought a dozen or more games at ridiculous prices. Even a year later, those discount prices are still very competitive on all of them. Just gotta catch the right price at the right moment (Which is where this thread comes in).

Happy Shopping... We still have the Christmas Sales and then the New Year's sales ahead of us! [:D][:D][:D]
Love & Peace,
