Thanks for keeping EF II going + question (sorry, didn't upload first time)

Hi all,

This is my first post so please be nice. Sorry for the incomplete post before.

I was until very recently still playing the old Talonsft CD-ROM version of EF II. Been playing for years. So thrilled to see people are still keeping this game going. In fact, I very recently bought the download version.

So here’s my question. I’ve always wanted to alter the unit composition for Linked and Dynamic campaigns.

For example, starting an Eastern Front II campaign in June 1941 with the first Panzer Battalion, I always thought it’d be neat to be able to include an extra few units. For example, a few more engineers or even a 150mm or rocket company. Just for the fun of it.

I messed around endlessly with the Edit order of battle function in ORG files. The closest I got was seeing the ‘new’ units in my Moscow 41 Linked campaign listed in the Review Command screen – but they never seem to appear on the battle field.

What am I missing? Can the unit composition for Linked / Dynamic campaigns be altered?

Yes, they can and there is a document in your Manuals folder that explains how to do it.

Creating and Modifying a DCG.pdf

Hope that helps

Wow... and there's me thinking I just need to tweak the ORG file. Thanks very much for that. Might be an excuse to learn to code while I'm at it LOL.

LCGs can't be modified, only DCGs. The LCG is s series of pre made scenario, not randomly generated like DCGs.

Edit: sorry if the below reads like it's all over the shop. I've had to remove strings of numbers as it won't let me post otherwise.

Hey mate, thanks for all your help so far.

I've had a good, long look at the Creating and Modifying a DCG manual. Thanks to you, I'm thrilled that I can finally tweak things like the height of the map, the likelihood of the mission-type, and the variables. For example, I've set my Polish campaign to be 100% static line in the first week only with a much higher incidence of improved positions and bunkers / pillboxes. It's now much closer to simulating a attack on a fortified line. Sure, the locations of victory points are still a bit random but it's still very nice to customise this now.

So now that I've done all that, the one thing I still haven't even gotten close to doing successfully is altering the selectable Core units.

I've tried to follow the example used in the Creating and Modifying a DCG manual. This is where a Tiger Battalion is added to the Corps OOB file to make this a selectable Core unit.

The manual says: "Copy only this first line [xxx full list of numbers here xxx Heavy Panzer Battalion (Tigers - Army Troops)], open up the Campaign01 oob file and paste it anywhere within the [xxx full list of numbers xxx]. Panzer Corps oob and voila!

Playing Germans, however, I just can't seem to make a unit appear like this. Is this actually do-able?

For example, for the hell of it, playing Eastern Front as Germans against Soviets, It'd be a rather memorable campaign if my Armored Core unit were a Battalion of Flammpanzers or Rocket Artillery. This unit exists in the Corps Order of Battle and in the Battalion01 OOB file. So I paste this unit's line of text [the forum is preventing me from posting the full line - it's the Flammpanzer Battalion (Panzer II(Fl) - Army Troops) line] into the Campaign01 OOB file.

What am I doing wrong here? Is it actually possible to do this as part of your Core unit?

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!
