Support for AI help/advice?

Post by Platoon_Michael »

Hello,

In an effort to get more support to the AI for the Stock Mod I've been working on I pegged out the total amount of Support to 10 within the Campaign.txt file under the Option:
diff-base support

But I'm still seeing issues where the AI will assign support to BG's that will never see Battle on that turn of the GC.
And in a Lot of cases the AI will assign all 3 support option to a BG that wont see Battle.

I'd love to know if possible what exactly does the AI take into account when assigning support?
Or could we get this number increased from 10 to say 50?
Would even having 50 support options get the AI to assign support to all BG's on the strategic map?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Michael,

The maximum number of support missions per day for each type is 10.

The algorithm the AI uses is fairly simple -- it first checks for BGs that are on the front line (i.e. adjacent or within a contested or enemy controlled map.) Moving BGs are favored over stationary ones in all cases. Air strikes are assigned to the weakest BG(s). Artillery and mortar support to strongest battlegroup(s).

The AI won't assign support to a BG that does not appear to be on the front line.

The AI will assign all the support it can every turn. If the support is unused it will be available again next turn.

Hello,
Thanks for the response.

Here you can see three Allied BG's that arent going to see Battle having support applied to them.

One last example.
Dec. 16th Turn 2
The Allies have not used one Air strike against me and not much in the ways of the other support as well.

Playing as the Axis and using the Save game Editor I can see 10 Allied BG's and yet even with all the support options set to the maximum of 10 the AI still doesn't assign support to all its BG's.

I can understand the 422/106th and the 110/28th ID BG's getting full support despite not having an enemy BG to fight against as they were bypassed on this turn.

The support assignments are done prior to movement, and the AI doesn't take into account possible movement blockage when assigning support. So this sort of thing can happen. This is basically the same code as the original CC4/5 and could certainly be improved.
