sorry to say it, but Google Model: M17xR3 errors and see how many pages come up, this is one of the many reasons why they discontinued it...

http://www.dell.com/uk/p/alienware-m17x-r3/pd
Well aware. But I haven't had any issues up till now, and running on the integrated card here won't be a bother. I can set the preferences for each game/card combo.

But that being said, never again alienware.

Oddly my onboard cheap card works way better than my nvidia gaming card

As I can see dxdiag output was w/o nvidia card. What was the nvidia driver version you were using?
Nvidia driver version is also older than current by a year or so. I've upgraded that one sparingly as some of the upgrades cause massive issues. So I stick with an older one until I find a new stable driver.

I think a house of cards has a more solid foundation than alienware machines sometimes. If you keep up with drivers that aren't "approved" rather than only accept the alienware recommended updates you tend to brick your system. And they stopped supporting it a year or so ago.

don't know for your system. For mine, it is in the advanced drivers/settings of the add-on card. Should be able to take control of which card is used with which applications.

Erik - FYI, I changed the settings to run the game on my NVIDIA card only (NOT the integrated card) and it runs fine.

In Belphegor's case, that Intel driver is ancient and needs updating (5/3/2011). I have seen problems with that ancient intel hd graphics driver in other new games. So if you use that as your graphics device, then that is probably the source of the issue.

Looks like I was too quick - second time around with the NVIDIA card resulted in original symptoms. Switched to integrated graphics and I've run it several times with no lockup. Hope this helps.

Still having this problem, no matter which card now. Happens during the strategic phase of the air execution every time. :-( Can't play the game.

Gentlemen,

Having the same problem here with an NVIDIA 670. Updated the drivers this morning to the current build. Tried full screen, windowed, high level graphics, low level graphics, but no joy.

The mission in progress slowly creeps from hex to hex, about 10-15 seconds per hex on my 2 year old I7-3770.

Did not notice this issue with the Husky Scenario, but it is apparent in the Air War Scenario.

Thanks as always for all your efforts and support!

It seems that it narrows down to the nvidia setups. Can you post a dxdiag? Thanks.

very true, usually. However in this case the ancient driver works better than the nvidia one. Thanks though guys. Appreciate all the comments

After trying to update the drivers and essentially breaking my machine (alienware are very fussy about updates. I'll never buy that brand again) I restored to my original settings prior to having the issue.

I have managed to make the game work very well with low/med air war reporting and message level 2. Setting to message level 3 with med air war tends to cause the big slowdown. For me, key was message level 2. Game has been running well with both cards (and ancient drivers)

edit: I run in windowed mode but max the screen.

I found one issue when it can get "stuck" if air execution detail is set to medium or higher. It is caused by the interception code calling the redraw routine even if there is no interception was launched. This might get visible in case of big raids.

It is probably not related to the original issue as it was reported even with no air exec details. But in case anyone experiencing high delay on medium/high air execution details, please try to lower them to none/low and see if it helps.

Would changing the exec details from high to low during the turn resolve it? I'm wondering if, for my part, I was already stuck there, even though I turned down the detail during the turn.
