Gentlemen,

A couple questions for the experts:
1. If you bomb a base linked to others by road or raid to 100% damage,
does that effect the ability of that base to distribute supply to surrounding hexes?

2. If you want to bombard a coastal hex that isn't a base if you aren't invading in the hex,
why is it so hard to do that? Is that by design? I have tried the patrol and straightforward mission,
but I cannot create much success.

Gentlemen,

A couple questions for the experts:
I may not be an expert. I'll answer your questions anyway, though.

1. If you bomb a base linked to others by road or raid to 100% damage,
does that effect the ability of that base to distribute supply to surrounding hexes?

Simple answer - no. However, by bombing a given base to 100% damage, you have probably also bombed (and destroyed) quite a bit of the excess supply that may have been stored at that base, so there should still be less supply available to distribute to any outlying troops even if you can't damage the supply distribution infrastructure.

2. If you want to bombard a coastal hex that isn't a base if you aren't invading in the hex,
why is it so hard to do that? Is that by design? I have tried the patrol and straightforward mission,
but I cannot create much success.

Think about the size of a hex in this game. If there were no base present, what kind of damage do you think even 10 battleships could do if they were shelling an area 40 miles wide? Bombardments are always more effective (and rightfully so) against enemy bases, since most enemy troops are assumed to be concentrated at those bases, and not scattered throughout the hex. When there is no natural reason for the enemy to be concentrated, then the results of the average bombardment reflect this (meaning the results are usually poor.) Stick to bombarding enemy bases (preferably with a good DL beforehand and with additional recon on the turn you bombard) and you'll be much happier with the results.

Just to be sure, do you have difficulty initiating the bombardment or are you unhappy with the results of a bombardment?

I don't think you can bombard a non-base hex with ships. I have tried many times to bombard the hex between Canton and Hong Kong and Jap units there, but to no avail.

Typically cannot bombard at all. Every now and then I can make it work, but the algorithm seems to prevent it. I was just curious if its meant not to be possible.
