[steam] error login to pbem++

I have the steam version of the game, and I have a problem tryin to log in to pbem++. I was able to join one time (as my first try), but since then i get an error "This serial number appers to be registered to another user. Is your user name correct? I tried with both my email and my correct user name, to no avail.

Anyway, thanks for an awesome game!

Juan, what game version are you running? You can find it in the main menu at the lower right of the dialog box.

If you have the Steam version of the game then it will save a serial number into the ini file for future reference. This may have become corrupted somehow and that might be causing what you are seeing.

Look in your game directory for the file "flashpoint.ini" and open it up for editing. Towards the very end you will see something like:

[Steam]
VSN=1111-2222-3333-4444

The 1111-2222-3333-4444 part will be your serial number. Please edit the "VSN=" part so that it looks like this:

[Steam]
VSNxxx=1111-2222-3333-4444

Then try logging in again. It should create a new VSN= entry with the same serial number you have been assigned. Please let me know if it is the same or different. Don't post it here - we don't want everyone to know your serial number, but if you want to attach the whole ini file to a private message to me or email it to me at robert.crandall@ontargetsimulations.com then please do. It might help.

I believe this problem is resolved for 2.08.

Map66, what error are you getting? I'm now seeing a "not enough data transferred" message.

The same as before--- your serial is registered to a different account.

Edit--- I also tried deleting the ini file, and once again was able to log in once, then can't log in on any subsequent attempts.

Yes, it is the Steam version, and 2.08 on the menu.

As I said in one of the prior threads about this problem, my gut feel is its something weird going on with the encryption of the password into the ini file (or back).

Is there another way to find my game s/n for PBEM++?? I am on 2.08, with Steam.
I haven't figured it out. I looked in the flashpoint.ini as described above and the "steam" and "vsn" text is completely missing.

FYI - I'm getting the "not enough data transferred" error message when trying to log into PBEM++. It allowed me in once, to create the game. My opponent accepted the challenge, but when I tried to log in the error popped up.

Okay, this is weird since it was working for a number of folks and now seems to have abruptly stopped. We have a Dev call Monday night and this will be topic #1. We may contact some of you to test the 2.09 beta to see if the issue is fixed assuming we can do the same with your partner. Sorry for the sudden breakdown.

Just FTR, I'm still getting the error of invalid serial number when trying to login from the Steam version. Only thing that works is to manually erase the flashpoint.ini file, which will then allow one login. I'm more then happy to run a test on any beta updates when they are available.

Admittedly I could just switch over to the Matrix installer version of the game, which doesn't seem to have the problem, but I do like the convenience of Steam.

I also tried the create and account/cancel workaround mentioned in another thread, but no luck.
