Combat Message Resolution Level

Post by marion61 »

I thought this was a bug, but I didn't see it on the forum so I thought I'd mention it. Every time I exit and come back into the game, I have to reset the Combat Message Resolution Level. I'm not sure if any other preferences are not saving, but this one doesn't for some reason. I use win 7 64bit system.

The preference file should be saved off every time you exit the game. When you exit, do you see the file get updated (it's in the /dat/save directory. It's wirpref.dat.

I've mainly noticed it when I'm doing my server game. I reset that every turn (because I forget until then), and then if I go to a non-server game it stays that way. I just exited a non-server game and it updated the file as it should. The next time I get on the server I will check it again to see if that is where it's changing.

I just exited a server game, and when I checked the preferences again, the message level was set back to zero again. The files weren't updated.

i think Joel thought you meant normal game, not on line pbem etc, then that from your shots would be wirserver.dat for a wild guess, and if that doesn't save it, then it's a bug, unless you're using a none admin type account, which then you own't have the permissions maybe to alter files, but might be wrong, i normal am 50% of the time

Well that seems to be a solid clue that there is something different about server games than regular games and changes aren't saved off. Will add this to the bug list, although there may be a reason why this is being done this way.

Hate to say this but I may have found a bug with the air resolution turn.

I will set the combat display level to 2 and run a turn okay but then the next turn it gets reset back to 1. Shouldn't it stay at the level one had it set?

Pavel can't duplicate this problem of the pref file not saving off when you exit the program when you were in an MP game. I really need exact steps of how to make this happen to make sure we are all doing exactly the same thing.

I see another bug report re combat message delay. I'd suggest a separate thread for that and also a similar exact step by step of what you do and what goes wrong.

The way the game should work, is every time you exit the program, any change in preferences that had been made while playing will be updated in the permanent file (using whatever the last prefs used).

Sorry for the problem, but we need the exact steps to figure out what is going wrong for you. Thanks.

The steps that lead to this I took, was to let the turn process, closed out the multi-player back to the main menu. When I go into the preferences from here the value is reset to 0. When I am in a regular game, the file saves. It doesn't save when I exit out of a server game. If I go onto the server and back out without entering my server game, it's fine. It happens after I have processed a turn and returned to the main menu.
