Ground Attack Railyard vs. Bomb City Railyard

Post by NotOneStepBack »

I was looking through the manual on this, is there a real difference between railyard attack if on ground attack vs. bomb city?

When would it be best to attack a railyard in either mode, and also vs. railway?

There are a few differences. Ground Attack directives have dive bombing and a different attack algorithm, usually a faster turn around, and a higher vulnerability to enemy flak. City Bombing tends to be higher level bombing, less frequent, and less vulnerability to flak due to higher altitudes and no dive bombing. I really have not definitively tested the difference between the two so I can't help you on which is best. I tend to do the City Bombing with the Strategic AFs (8th USAAF, RAF Bomber Command, and Strategic/15th USAAF) and Ground Attack with the others.

Rule thumb is that dive bombers are much more accurate in bombing and can destroy targets fast but also much more vulnerable to flak fire. Dive bombers have small bomb load that they can get to hit primary target much more accurately but level bombers have much higher bomb loads and dont hit target as accurate but can also damage other targets in same hex especially when bombing cities.

Am not 100% sure I havent play this game a lot yet but am fairly sure that bombing cities with large number of level bombers also cause damage to other target to same city than main target.

There is no difference when it comes to actual bombing (although aircraft type specific still apply). The difference is in the way tactical and strategic targeting is done.
