second intro scenario question

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

second intro scenario question

Post by leftydad »

So, I learned how to do the first introductory scenario, HUSKY. But what exactly is going on with the second scenario, AIR CAMPAIGN. Is this just sort of a "sand box" for using Air Directives? There doesn't seem to be any kind of explanation of the specific goal of this scenario....

Also, if anyone is new to WITW or WITE, this video helped me understand the game mechanics better than anything else. Watch this video, then watch the tutorial videos.

Check 25.2.1. on your manual

Basicly, its the main campaigns strat bombing objective, mutiplied by 100, minus your air casualties.

Meaning, that while in the main campaign you usual get 1 or 2 VPs per turn for the strat bombing, in this scenarion you get from 0 to 200-300 VPS per turn.

Thanks for the info. So, it's like a "Trial and Error" scenario to test out what the varies choices do when using Strat Bombing?

That's the idea. Now that I'm playing the grand campaign, I see the value of playing the Air scenario. Turn 1 of the 1943 campaign essentially combines Husky with the Air scenario, since those are the two operations underway at the start of the game. It's definitely worth taking the time to try the Air scenario, to experiment with what strategic bombing techniques work and what don't. (E.g., night bombing has fewer casualties but fewer hits, too.)
