VP for early Berlin capture?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

VP for early Berlin capture?

Post by ratprince »

So, I am into Germany by Freiburg and almost through the low countries and its July 4ish. To this end, I have thrown bodies thus my VP is near the axis minor victory level. To this:

If I capture Berlin by say winter time, will I then get an auto accumulate VP for every city to end game?

It seems there is a disincentive to going quickly rather than a slow plod. Is this planned?

Just curious on the ability to have an atypical axis of attack and end result and still "win" via vps.

Each week that you are into Germany you will be gaining extra points due to city control and destroying German factories and thus gaining SBPs as well (no need to bomb something that you've captured). Then, there's a big bonus for each turn you get Berlin ahead of schedule. So you can afford some extra losses. You'd have to do the math to know exactly what you can lose and still make it worthwhile. But I'd expect a January or even February capture of Berlin will get you a win.

But..but...but...Eisenhower would still lose his bet!

Gotcha...thanks... I am just seeing sizable negative VPs for losses and not that many for city. I was wondering if the german city losses were more valuable.

I am guessing January may be optimistic. March likely. So, we will see what happens for all the blood....heh..

You can expect a long time of being in the negative. Once you get into France, points start to increase (but so do losses). Paris and Rome are important locations for generating city points.

They dont seem to be THAT valuable. I captured Paris on June 23. I have held it for three months and still my VPs are typically a minus or maybe one or two positive.

Its september 3 and I have all of France liberated and into most of the low countries and southern Germany...still on a few positive per turn. If it stays like there is no possible way to counteract the minus 300 or so.... its concerning because I havent THROWN away troops per se. I am curious how to get into Germany and stay anywhere near a positive value. Not complaining, just wondering if we have to stay exactly historical to produce a positive result
